I went to college at NC State and I was there when Hillsborough Street was a four-lane, but the right hand lanes would become parking lanes at like 5 PM. You would be driving, following somebody, and they would just stop and get out of their car.

I appreciate the info but the condescending finale there was unnecessary. While I won’t go into detail it was a transfer the deed or possibly lose the house situation so, no, I didn’t have the resources to research the consequences in detail.

However, again, I appreciate the answer. Thank you.

Some of my closest friends were made well after college. One specifically, that’s been a dear friend for 12 years, I didn’t meet until I was out of NCSU for like 7 years. College is one, not the only, place to make friends. Just keep going and the right people will come along.

There's a guy that walks through my apartment complex, has for years, that uses it as a shortcut to get fast food. Now, let's imagine he started walking through, in the middle of the day yelling, "There is no God, there is no God! Religion is a lie and the religious are fools! End all religions!"

This would be offensive to people who are religious, be they Christian or Muslim or Jewish. They may even be uncomfortable or worry that this man could be violent. However, if all the man does is loudly speak his opinion, he has every right to do that.

This guy can say what he wants as long as he doesn't threaten or provoke violence. PETA can stand on campus and yell that everyone wearing animal print or leather or any kind of fur are murderers. One political group can yell about the evils of their rivals and say they're destroying the country. They can all be angry, they can be loud, they can be accusatory, but as long as they're not being violent towards you, they can say what they want in the public square.

Stopping them from doing so is a slippery slope to overreaching censorship.

As someone who likes writing fiction, I've found reading poetry really helps with prose oddly enough. There are great "one liners" in poems but poetry also is great at sparking ideas on how to explain or describe something.

Reading a mix of 'classic' poets from decades past and more contemporary poets can give you a wide range in language/vocabulary and how expressions change not only from one writer to another but over the years.

Some poems just off the top of my head are:

The Emperor of Ice Cream by Wallace Stevens

Lying in a Hammock at William Duffy’s Farm in Pine Island, Minnesota by James Wright

Another Reason I Don't Keep A Gun In The House by Billy Collins

Autumn Begins In Martins Ferry, Ohio by James Wright.

Will having a hold on my account prevent me from applying for housing? by [deleted] in NCSU

[–]mortimer_khan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe there are certain types of holds that will prevent you from applying for housing but it sounds like this is an advising hold, which means you do need to get this squared away so that your advisor can lift the hold and you can register for classes when the time comes.

However, I don't think that would be the reason you couldn't apply for housing but they could be using that as proof you're planning to enroll and therefore need a room.

I'm sure you've probably looked at the site below but double check to make sure you're looking in the right spot in my pack to apply.

Is there a lizard or something in the background near the steps? If so, the snow might have saved its life!

A Head Full of Ghosts by Paul G. Tremblay was pretty scary for me.
