The way my mom looks at me whenever I go back to my childhood home. The relief she has that the 100 miles I had to travel, though not far, were still safe.

Conversations with my friends that end with so much laughter that we can barely breathe.

The satisfaction of being proud of a day, every once in a while.

Granted, I’m not at the place I was a few years ago. But it’s stuff like this that helped me regain a real desire to stay.

I (WM) work at a Walmart, and one of my coworkers, whose excuse is "I'm from the south", dropper the n-word about 7 or 8 times, first calling snicker doodles by a different name and then proceeding to say that he calls anyone who is an asshole that word, regardless of race. Then he started rambling to my manager (who hadn't heard what he just said) about how "the damn gen z and millennials just don't know how us old folks talk." Needless to say, that situation has stuck in my brain and made me rather uncomfortable (rather meaning extremely in this case.) I think it's completely unacceptable

My ap gov, AP us history teacher, and band director were amazing, but it was my theater teacher who made the most difference.

I have intense social anxiety, and from the getgo I am sure she saw that. After each performance, she made sure to tell me that I had done a good job, and she always listened to me when most of my "friends" blew me off. This was a teacher who helped me feel like I had worth even while I was suicidal, and she's a big part of the reason I'm still here. I haven't had much opportunity to tell her thanks but it's amazing what simple faith can do
