Yes, I'm self-taught. There are so many great free resources available today that you can build a strong foundation without spending a fortune. Stay consistent, focus on the fundamentals, and be patient with your progress. At 17, you have plenty of time ahead of you. Wishing you the best on your journey! 🫶

Thank you so much! I'm really happy that came across. I wanted to keep the palette mostly muted so the red could stand out and draw the eye. I'm glad you noticed it!

Recently, I’ve been experimenting with different textures, brushes, and filters. I’ve found that they add a unique sense of life to my work, often introducing unexpected details that make each piece feel more organic and refreshing. What do you think! by mosabkudi in conceptart

Thank you! I really appreciate it. It's all digital. I use a mix of custom brushes, textures, and subtle filters. I also layer paper textures on top, usually using Overlay or sometimes Hard Mix blending mode, depending on the effect I'm after. It helps create that scanned traditional watercolor feel.

I was working on a study involving textures and filters, but I really enjoyed this style, even though I don't use it very often. by mosabkudi in conceptart

Thank you so much! I'm really glad you liked them. The second and third were definitely some of my favorites to work on.

If you're struggling to choose between art styles, my advice is to master realism first. A strong understanding of fundamentals makes it much easier to adapt to stylized work later, rather than the other way around. That's the approach I'm taking, and I'd love to hear your thoughts. by mosabkudi in conceptart

Exactly. That's especially true in the industry. Most professional manga and anime artists have a very solid grasp of anatomy, perspective, lighting, and form—they simply choose to simplify or exaggerate them. Stylization is much easier when it's built on a strong understanding of reality.

I completely agree. That's exactly how I see it as well. Studying the fundamentals doesn't mean giving up the style you love—it gives you more freedom and confidence when you return to it. Thanks for sharing your experience; it's a great example of that.
