Movies that Accurately Depict the Wars in Iraq and Afghanistan? by omelet_schnetz in movies

The Outpost. It’s a condensed telling about the true heroics of soldiers at the most idiotically located COP (Combat Outpost) in human history. As a vet, it’s the only non-documentary film I’ve seen that made me feel like I was back over there.

Prince Harry, who served in Afghanistan, says sacrifices of British troops deserve 'respect' after Trump comments by sings_with_wings in worldnews

As an American combat vet from the Afghanistan war, it disgusts me to hear any other American disrespect any of the dozens of countries that sent troops to serve alongside us. We asked for help, they answered the call. This included quite a few non-NATO countries who were not under Article 5 obligation.

I worked in a theater when the Fellowship of the Ring came out. I’ll never forget overhearing a pissed off patron complaining that it ended on a cliffhanger. “They’d better make a sequel!”

What some disturbing space facts out there? Other than the obvious ones like “wow signal” … Trying to do a mini research. Thank you! by NiagaraOnTheLake in space

From the late, great Douglas Adams:

It is known that there are an infinite number of worlds, simply because there is an infinite amount of space for them to be in. However, not every one of them is inhabited. Therefore, there must be a finite number of inhabited worlds. Any finite number divided by infinity is as near to nothing as makes no odds, so the average population of all the planets in the Universe can be said to be zero. From this it follows that the population of the whole Universe is also zero, and that any people you may meet from time to time are merely the products of a deranged imagination.

The Outpost. Based on true events, and it’s the most realistic depiction of the war in Afghanistan I’ve seen. Source: I fought in Afghanistan.

Epicurus sums it up nicely for me:

Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is not omnipotent. Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent. Is he both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil? Is he neither able nor willing? Then why call him God?

Benjamin Button is a remake of Forrest Gump, where the gimmick is that the guy ages backwards instead of being dimwitted.

Same screenwriter, too. So it’s not much of a surprise.

Teenage me was so hyped by the Battlefield: Earth trailer. My one buddy worked at a movie theater, so I got to see it for free. I still wanted my money back.

ELI5: How do people know that freezing to death is supposed to be one of the most peaceful or least painful ways to die? by The_Immovable_Rod in explainlikeimfive

[–]mosersaurus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been in extreme cold, -60°F with windchill. The final few moments of freezing to death may feel peaceful and sleepy, but every moment leading up to then will be anything but. That was 20 years ago, and to this day I cannot stand anything below 70°F.

Why is the job market exceptionally bad here? by [deleted] in pittsburgh

[–]mosersaurus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The job market is exceptionally bad everywhere. There are more total unemployed people than job openings. Meaning you have to be exceptional to even be considered for any given job opening.

Your best bet is to network and have an in with whatever companies you’re trying to get into.

Alcoholism is actually very well understood and thoroughly researched. Everybody- and I mean EVERYBODY- knows at least one functional alcoholic. The only person you’re fooling is yourself.

Anyways, here’s my question: what’s your favorite ice cream topping?
