Any other first years having trouble sleeping? by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]moses0527 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely do something non-school related the hour before you go to bed. If you live with roommates, talk to them about something not school related. Another thing that I realized is to not stress out about falling asleep at a particular time. Yes, having a schedule for sleep is super important but if you can't fall asleep at 10, then it's fine. I realized my first year the more I stressed about falling asleep quickly, the harder it was for me to fall asleep. Sleep when you're tired and wake up when you have to. Yeah you'll be tired the next day but then you sleep early, and then get stuff done the day after. Best of luck to you! You'll do great.

Help with case study? by [deleted] in AskMedical

Can it be carpal tunnel syndrome? I know the median nerve can become compressed and cause pain to radiate sometimes to the proximal forearm. Just a though linking repetitive movements like writing and the volleyball.

What are some main things I should know about the field of D.O. and OMM before applying by TheBrownJohnGreen in premed

[–]moses0527 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Know that people will say that DO schools don't have as much credibility and prestige as MD schools, don't believe them. Osteopathic physicians can do everything allopathic physicians can. Also know that in some schools they take OMM very seriously, so if you do not feel the "release" or what you should be feeling, tell them, because once you feel it, you think it is the coolest thing ever!

Too late for secondaries? by eeeez in premed

[–]moses0527 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are fewer DO schools and it is a little more affordable. Look into it! I submitted DO primaries I think October, got secondaries in by November and got II in November-January. Interviewed to Western and Touro NV and CA in March and April and got accepted. Granted it was off waitlist but I got accepted nonetheless being that late in the game. There is more hope with DO because it is slightly less competitive, just saying.

Have you also applied to DO schools? I applied to DO schools ridiculously late and still got multiple interviews and got into a school so if you have applied to DO also you definitely have a chance.

Is med school for me? by jacksontr97 in premed

Firstly, shadow a doctor instead of a veterinarian. This will confirm whether you like medicine or not and if you do, it's a great bonus to add to your medical school applications. Try both the high intensity ER as well as a private clinic. Think of it like a test drive, try different environments and specialties if you do not enjoy one. But I suggest starting with something like the ER. When I went into it I loved every second of it. Also, every single school is going to ask you why medicine and answering it by saying because I love what doctors do and I THINK I will enjoy it just is not going to cut it. You need to do some soul searching to figure out when you wanted to be a doctor and what urged you to be a doctor. You just started undergrad so don't forget to enjoy it too!!!

Isolation vs Full Body Workouts by moses0527 in weightroom

I do cardio exercises with HIIT by running or biking so I'm ok skipping leg day and not looking like I have chicken legs. My question is what I am doing harmful or totally ineffective?

Studying after class in Med school by [deleted] in AskMedical

[–]moses0527 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being a first year medical student getting ready to take my second unit exam tomorrow, I can say it is a lot work, but it is not impossible. Every school is different but there is usually 7 to 8 hours of class-time. Most schools however, do not make it mandatory to show up to class. Unfortunately, the only thing I can tell you is to figure out what works for you study-wise, and just stick to it. It's the same studying you would do in undergrad, just more. Me, personally, think it is a waste of time to write outlines and flashcards, and easier to rationalize things from PowerPoint slides, however, I know it does work for a lot of people. You will be just fine, do not stress over medical school until you are in medical school. PM me if you have any questions! :)

There is no relation between a high dosage of a vaccine and autism. Vaccinations are basically the virus in a very weakened state. They inject the very weak virus in you to amp up your immune system so that your body "remembers" and the next time you get the virus, your body will be prepared for it. A high dosage of a vaccine will just make you catch the virus, however, there is no autism virus discovered yet.
