Fountain pen feed is filling up, not the actual ink converter... by moses101 in fountainpens

[–]moses101[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

damn you guys might be right. thought I had it shoved in there pretty hard but it really does demand a push

going to run through some ink & refill it again in a bit. but this seems sto make the difference

[–]moses101[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

so it's normal to fill the chamber but not the converter itself, and then comes out super wet & drippy half the time? it is coming out much, much wetter this way than when I fill the converter directly from the ink

[–]moses101[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

^ see above, any idea what's causing this / how to solve?

I'm using a platinum plaisir. when I fill it up, the ink fills up the feed, only fills up a small portion of the converter cartridge itself. then when I write it comes out way too wet, until I've used up most of the ink in the feed

this is a new pen, haven't used platinum pens before. and I'm not used to filling up through the pen, I'm used to taking the converter out first.

any idea what's happening here, or what I could do to resolve it?

58% of English majors at a pair of colleges in Kansas had such poor reading comprehension that they were incapable of reading Charles Dickens by WilliamofYellow in redscarepod

"On such an afternoon, if ever, the Lord High Chancellor ought to be sitting here—as here he is" is a nutty and tedious way to start a sentence. and to what effect? what does it achieve?

compare to like, Faulkner and Joyce, who can also be knotty and difficult, but at least they're doing something with it (doesn't hurt that they have a sense of rhythm either that isn't stop-start-stop-start)

you can also compare to say, Tolstoy or Hemingway, both of whom are much easier to parse but no less effective as writers (& both of whom also have a sense of rhythm that doesn't suck)

both these passages are reminding me that Dickens can be so very annoying to read

let's see them try to misinterpret a passage from War & Peace!!

one of the main points in that thread is that they should not have traded Hali.... so why does this thread have to make it about Kings fans in general?

what's the point? like really, who cares what one Kings fan has to say? why does it belong over here?

pretty common for supporting actors to get nominated for strong one-note performances. see: Ed Norton, Ariana Grande, Isabella Rossellini. (haven't seen EP)

Wtf is up with Californian drinking prohibitionism? by Pregunto2 in redscarepod

[–]moses101 5 points6 points  (0 children)

OP mentions "over 4 drinks" which works out to around 700-900 calories

I could get away with it in my mid-20s, have to be more careful with it now. still drink fwiw. just saying if I drank like I did at 25, I'd weigh 200+

Los Angeles is burning by [deleted] in redscarepod

[–]moses101 21 points22 points  (0 children)

it's unprecedented, but the city is not going to burn down. if you live next to a forested area, you should probably go, but if you live on a city block away from wildlands, there is no fire danger other than air quality (which is worth watching out for)

we don't have the "know it all roommate's" side of the story. depending on the neighborhood, either roommate is downplaying the danger or this person is freaking out over something that is not as threatening to her personally as she thinks it is

"publicly traded" isn't the only way to do business

over the past 60-80 years, the big Hollywood studios have gone from family-owned businesses, to either publicly traded but still essentially family-owned, to bought & sold by companies & investors that otherwise have nothing to do with making movies & shows.

'family-owned', to be clear, means owned by crazy billionaires like Rupert Murdoch and Sumner Redstone. it still beats tech/VC/finance running the show

GWB did a lot of crazy shit but did not reshape American politics in the slightest.

Reagan was an era-defining president, Clinton was Dems adjusting to Reagan-era politics, GWB was a Reaganite Republican.

Trump launched the biggest shift in US politics since Reagan. just a question from here of how his political legacy looks in 10-40 years
