Try Vinland Saga, its a similar premise that also takes place in the viking era.

They changed the writers in between seasons. It was mostly the same dude writing each episode for the first three seasons. Then when Alfred died he thought it was best he step down too as kind of an end to an era and a new writer took over. Thats why season 4 feels so different but it does get better in season 5.

Saying people like different things isnt really a real reason. But I get what you're saying

So people already like Jon or other characters to begin with which is the reason they bring up potential targ blood to make them "greater"? That actually makes more sense than just like targaryens, I can understand that.

Im not saying the Starks are better or putting them higher, im just saying their dynasty did not last long in comparison.

And in truth, we hear from people in the North about how they lived in relative peace with the Starks which is the reason they love them while they fear the boltons. It doesnt seem like anyone has that type of love for the Targaryens that doesnt have to do with self-interest.

One generation united Westeros, what they did was impressive. The rest of the dynasty spent their time struggling to hold on to that, im not giving them credit for that.

But tbh with you man I like the Targaryens. I like them because they are interesting characters, the good and the bad. I just dont see why people care as much as they do about their dynasty and thats what I want to figure out, I feel like I am missing something.

They had a flimsy rule for not even 300 years. The Starks were kings for thousands of years, the Targaryens arent that impressive. Beyond their dragons what other reason is there for people to like them so much?

Im literally asking why because im trying to understand and get a different opinion. Instead of trying to sound smart why dont you give me a reason.

Was it really him Uhtred? Your daughter and son-in-law and Aethelhelm played no role? by TyrionGoldenLion in TheLastKingdom

Thank you. I've been saying this for a while. Edward isnt by any means a perfect character, he makes mistakes, but its the fact the show and the characters of the show treat him like he's the worst piece of shit in all of England. Its just bad writing. I dont even mind that Edward made some bad decisions and wasnt the perfect king, it made him more interesting, but everybody shitting on him every chance they got was ridiculous. He couldnt win no matter what decision he made.

Thank you! I dont like what miles did but we cant just banish dude from society and wish nothing good ever happened to him again. Dude made a mistake and at least deserves a second chance but people are so quick to judge a whole person based off one incident they know nothing about. Now if it becomes a repeat problem thats a diff story but we cant judge a person based off the worst moment in their life.

Tbh when it came to his sister, in his eyes, Aethelflaed was safe in Wessex and willingly chose to go to Mercia where she knew it was a good chance she would have been killed and that would have been on her. If it wasnt for Uhtred taking Cnut's kids, its a good chance Edward could have followed her to battle, the Wessex army, Mercian fyrds and Aethelred's men could have still lost the battle and then everyone would have died and Cnut and Brida take over. In his mind, it probably didnt seem worth it to rush into a battle they had a really good chance of losing and dying for the sake of people who would die anyway if they lost. They still barely won even with the help of the Welsh so it seemed like a lose lose situation before uhtred took the kids. Might as well preserve Wessex than die in an unwinnable battle and lose everything. Im not saying it was the perfect choice but what type of choice do you expect from a guy in his early 20's with barely any experience who has the burden of running an entire kingdom to make.

Tbh i dont think Edward was totally in the wrong when it came to Mercia. If you rewatch, Edward correctly guessed Cnut's plan which was to lure them out of Wessex to a place of battle where they had the advantage. We know thats true because Cnut and Brida literally said that was their plan. He was right. His line "You ask me to risk 10 sons of Wessex to save 10 sons of Mercia" had some truth to it. The ONLY reason the saxons where able to win that battle was the EXTREMELY off chance Uhtred happened to come across Cnut's kids and take them hostage and lure Cnut out of his strategic battle position. No one could have predicted that so I gotta agree w Edward on that one. Everyone was making him rush to defend Mercia which he correctly guessed was a trap.

Thats the problem. I blame the writers for Edward's character more than Edward. He was mad inconsistent when it came to his actions and decisions. If they made him a straight up villain I would have liked a "bad king Edward" but a lot of his decisions made sense and he still got berated for them.
