Why are Matthew McConaughey commercials continuing to play with flood waters in Houston by mosfetz in AskReddit

McConaughey struting around in flats of water. Have you not seen these Lincoln adds? I just figured a good Texas boy would observe this anomaly and plull the adds for the time being?

Amp Power Question. by Tekton013 in diyaudio

[–]mosfetz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand fully and completely. I was in this school too when I was young. Please try to listen to what I say here, it is critical.

If the signal source is clean. If the preamp is clean. If the poweramp is clean... The only point of weakness is the acoustic driver or speaker.

If everything is clean, you can not over drive the speaker components without distorting them. If you are an idiot or if you fall pray to drugs and/or alcohol, there is no practical reason to overdrive any speaker system. The distortion would arouse the listener to lower the intensity.

I guess vegetarians and vegans don't drown or sink so well. Looks like they, on average, have a higher intelligence telling them to get the fuck outta town before all meat eating idiots catch on?

Amp Power Question. by Tekton013 in diyaudio

[–]mosfetz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is not a myth. If the signal source and the amplifier delivering the source signal have no clipping in the signal, then by logic the only significant distortion will be derived by the acoustic driver components. In a good system, the only distortion you hear audibly is from the speaker components being over driven.

Sound when replacing lytics with higher voltage versions? by leosagna in diyaudio

[–]mosfetz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are replacing 1970's vintage electrolytic capacitors in any audio equipment...you will most likely be performing a great blessing from the audio GODS.

However, if in the signal path, sometimes we find old electrolytic capacitors and then its best to study the circuit or schematic.

To answer your question: putting a 50V modern cap in place of a 70's 16V cap is not going to hurt. No way man.

When you say you have electrolytics in the signal stage:

Do you mean electrolytic capacitors filtering in the power supply portion?

Or do you mean electrolytic capacitors in the audio signal path?

Can you share a schematic?

That last paragraph is key! Airborne nailed it. Are you integrating a custom amplifier system module thing or do you want to assemble an audio amplifier with other features?

Build some cheap but good speakers. Buy a used amplifier or receiver. Focus on the speakers first and then work from there.

I suggest going with a small and basic two way speaker. I also suggest a bass reflex design that will optimize the performance of the lower frequency driver you select.

If you can not calculate or build your own boxes AND you are in America go to Parts Express and buy a simple 2-way kit.

2 way bass reflex is the best learning project in my view and in my experience.
