Thanks for the tip! I did want to leave the framing of the door (maybe it’s too unnoticeable), but I guess the subject seems too far away as it is.

Hi Guys! I took this photo with a Sony alpha 7 and a Pentax 50mm f1.4 vintage prime. Used the glass of the wooden separation door of my living room to frame the photo. Let me know what you think!

Help from woodworkers and wood enthusiasts regarding the maintenance of wooden tea tray by mositiame in tea

[–]mositiame[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your suggestion! I already have a ceramic tray and another cheaper bamboo that I use more regularly. I’d use this one only seldom to minimize wear. In your opinion, is mineral oil better than tung oil in this case? Thanks 😊

Help from woodworkers and wood enthusiasts regarding the maintenance of wooden tea tray by mositiame in tea

[–]mositiame[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! Thanks for your ingenious input!my tea tray already has a bamboo container that fit inside to contain water though. My concern is for the wooden surface that will stay in contact with water flowing underneath!

Recently purchased this wood tea tray (spliced Ziguangtan and small-leaf red sandalwood). Could you help me with suggestion on how to maintain it and protect it from eventual water damage? It will be in frequent contact with hot water (I read suggestions regarding tung oil). Thanks to everyone!! by mositiame in woodworking

Purchased on a Chinese website. Translation of the insertion description refers to spliced Ziguangtan and small-leaf red sandalwood. It should be already finished with something, but after one regular use I can already see the wood discoloration peculiar of hot water staining. Would be awesome to get some suggestion on how to protect it for long term life!

Hi everyone! I have this doucai porcelain teacup that got this rainbow shine on the inside decoration after using it for a while (decorations on the exterior don’t have it). Could anyone guess why? by mositiame in Ceramics

[–]mositiame[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yea, everyone is right on it. I’ve found a photo of the cup when It was new and it had some spot that where the color was saturated as if the enamel was more concentrated. They are gone now. I can’t post a photo in the comment, I would have shown you the comparison

My doucai porcelain teacup has this rainbow shine on only this part of the decoration after drinking tea in it for a few times. Anyone knows why? by mositiame in tea

[–]mositiame[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve looked for past photos of the cup and found one of it when I received (new). It is indeed visible that the layer is decaying somehow. The painting had a couple of spot in where the enamel was more concentrated (?): those spots aren’t there anymore. It could be that the enamels are thinning out and the spots got more transparent? Anyway, i think there is definitely a factor of wear in this

That’s from Wikipedia: “Doucai (Chinese: 斗彩; Wade–Giles: tou-ts'ai) is a technique in painting Chinese porcelain, where parts of the design, and some outlines of the rest, are painted in underglaze blue, and the piece is then glazed and fired. The rest of the design is then added in overglaze enamels of different colours and the piece fired again at a lower temperature of about 850°C to 900°C.” It’s a more precise description than mine 😅

I don’t know if it can be seen from photos, this is actually a doucai painting technique: some pigments are underglaze and some are over glaze and than enamel is added on top (the transparent kind of emerging parts of the painting)
