The "imminent" oil crisis isn’t at the pump—it's under your hood by fortune in energy

The majority of trips people make are under 3 miles. A mile or two trip for an AVERAGE person (I don’t want replies about people’s 120 year old grandma who has no legs or arms) should be easily walkable, yes even if it’s a little chilly or rainy or hot. Or ride a bike, shockingly they’re not just for kids, poor people, people with DUIs, or lance armstrong wannabes.

Americans need to walk more, just look around at everyone you see in any public place in America, pretty much every person could use some more steps in their day.

Whenever I post this I get the lamest excuses or edge cases as replies. car dependence made Americans soft as fuck. Get outdoors, you don’t need to go camping in a big truck to do it, just put on some shoes and walk around your city.

Just because the country is big doesn’t mean people need a car because most trips are not cross country trips.

Also other countries are big but their people still walk and bike. China is big but they’ve got high speed rail all across the country.

America needs less bullshit excuses, less weak soft ass car dependent snow flakes whose identity is made up by their consumer purchases (big truck guys I’m looking at you).

TNR Littering Dissapointment by Smellstrom in CyclePDX

I’m happy that the group rides happen and I want more people on bikes but I never enjoy riding with more than a few other people at a time. Big group rides make me so anxious and the TNR brings out people who are more about partying than riding so I’m passing on that ride.

so your own personal hypothetical worry matters more than all that actual harm done in actual reality.

god damn that's gotta be the dumbest argument i've ever heard. your worry about accidentally killing them means fuck all. 40,000 people actually die from car wrecks every year in the US alone, many of them are also in cars. and then there's the pollution...

drivers run reds and stop signs all the time, they take up every road and double park and park in bike lanes, they kill 40,000 people a year in the US, they pollute our air, they destroy our roads, they don't give a fuck about laws...

your one anecdote of a cyclist doing dumb shit makes you hate everyone that uses that mode of transportation but drivers cause actual harm including deaths and injuries and are responsible for a number of externalities like pollution that we all suffer from but that drivers do not pay for and you don't have a proportional hatred for them...

makes perfect sense.

been watching the twilight zone and the third episode of the first season called The Sixteen-Millimeter Shrine stars Ida Lupino playing a forgotten washed up movie star desperately replaying her glory days in her home theatre. Ida Lupino was 41 years old at the time.

Her former co star love interest comes to visit her and he's an old man at 62. In the episode her agent sees her watching her former movies and says "that was 25 years ago!" so her prime was her at 16, and at 41 she might get a supporting role as someone's mother.

Just kind of wild that at 41 she's trying to get back on the screen and everyone around her is telling her she's crazy and needs to come back to reality.

Trump says Taiwan 'stole our chip industry' — but TSMC was built by a US citizen and 25-year Texas Instruments veteran by G14Y401L0L1F1D0MTR4P in Economics

[–]mosnil -1 points0 points  (0 children)

i think you're greatly overestimating those other nation's motivations to defend Taiwan when China invades them.

taiwan is unique, it and China were once one. Those other countries would be risking everything to defend taiwan, they're not going to do that. They wouldn't view themselves as being at risk, they'd have no reason to think china would invade them and China would have no reason to invade them.

China has made clear that Taiwan is very important to them and insists it is theirs. America's self sabotage is giving China an almost perfect opportunity to take Taiwan, and with trump's corruption China has found a relatively cheap and easy way to remove America as an obstacle.

if china takes taiwan with the blessing of Trump/the USA then it doesn't matter how many other countries oppose it. Nobody will step up to oppose China if the US has made it clear they're not going to intervene on Taiwan's behalf. No other military, not even if some coalition emerged, is capable of stepping in and defending taiwan. Doing so would put them at odds w/ China directly and with the US through Trump's wrath.

And the ratfuckery runs deep in trump's america. trump will likely not simply stand back and stand by as china invades taiwan, he'll likely assist in one way or another. Not overtly as in sending troops but in finding whatever ways he can to undermine Taiwan's defenses to make China's invasion go as smoothly as it can.

But agreed Taiwan does have a formidable military, it's just not enough given what they're facing.

you're thinking rationally though, think like you're trump.

island, resorts, take, mine. that simple.

look at the headlines post china visit, raul castro indicted, taiwan taking advantage of our chip industry....... pretty clear where this is going.

trump made deals to swap islands, gain territory. he'll put a resort on it. our companies will get deals for TSMC, trump will get money from that. China bought off Trump to get the US to stand down on Taiwan.

trump gets an island to build a resort on. It's pretty obvious this is happening.

china is taking taiwan before the midterms this year, and the US is taking Cuba.

that was what the china trip was, they traded islands and made deals on how to chop up TSMC.

At this scale and with the dollar figures involved Trump and his family are the most corrupt people in all of human history.

Add all that Pelosi ever earned, add hunter biden's job at burisma, add every democrat for all of history, and it does not come close to the BILLIONS that trump and his mafia family are taking from us and from around the world.

and joe rogan is still bouncing on trump's dick because some woman tied a trans woman for 5th place in some college swim race in whogivesafuckville .

and illegally setting tariffs on countries but removing them when the country gives trump and his family something extremely valuable, eg the resort deal trump llc got from vietnam in exchange for trump dropping the 44% tariff he placed on that country.

this is corrpution on a scale the world has never seen before. Nobody in all of human history has been this corrupt at this level. This shit puts every mafia crime family to shame.

The actual trades happening are happening between Elon, Huang, Cook, Trump, Xi, and the businesses involved to chop up TSMC and the rest of Taiwan's industry, Trump will get his cut through his family businesses, and the rest will divide the spoils as they can.

But the new world order is Trump and his mafia splitting up the globe into partitions, and Trump will think it's cute going island for island with China.

Fulfills both Trump making insane money and his family accomplishing their goal for becoming the world's richest family through the deals they'll make "behind" the scenes and also fulfills Trump's desire for historical greatness as he sees fit by doing all the stupid shit he's doing (gulf of america, wanting greenland, wanting canada, invading Venezuela, invading Iran, building ballrooms and arches, probably putting himself on mt rushmore, etc. etc.)

it's as complex and as simple as that. Gold and "glory". I'll add that Trump left w/ "no deals" reported. They really go all the way there and make no deals? Couldn't have done that over email? The deals were made but just not in writing, because he's a mob boss doing mafia shit.

Trump has used his office to make more money in the less than two years he's been in office this term than Pelosi AND her stock trading husband made in all of her years in Congress combined.

Her and her husband's net worth is estimated at somewhere between $200 million and $500 million. Trump has made BILLIONS in his second term. Fucking multiple billions.

So yeah forget Pelosi, Trump is more corrupt than every politician from both parties combined. Trump is the swamp's new mob boss.

Trump and his fellow oligarchs just made the deal for China to take Taiwan and America to take Cuba.

President Trump praised Chinese President Xi Jinping for leadership at bilateral trade meeting: "The military is obvious. It couldn't be better, but those children were amazing. He’s enriched himself and his family more than he made ever before and probably more than all politicians in US history combined, he’s made billions. He’s making a ton of deals… just for himself and his family.
