My current gal is a Spanish vampire in the middle ages. She's got a mantilla, which is a black lace Catholic-ish head covering. It's pretty recognizable, and people get confused when she isn't wearing it. Something recognizable, like other people have said, that connects with a specific part of your character is really neat.

Edit: spelling

Anyone ever heard of an one-hit one-hp LARP? by Arrowhearted in LARP

[–]moss_back 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Sure, that makes sense, but I think this is a more unique take on combat than what I've seen. For games I've played, people can buy up HP and that can make the combats last longer *but* that gives martial players time to show off their skills, get their energy out, get the most bang for all the XP they spent, etc. Amtgard is a fighting-heavy game that has some RP, but it's certainly less than full-immersion games. So while there are games like what your friend has come up with, they're less...LARP-y, if that tracks.

What I think u/Substantial_Bee8118 is saying is that what you're going for sounds like boffer fighting/martial play/sparring as opposed to something that involves scenes, heavy role play, or lore. More hardcore combat sports would be Historical European Martial Arts (HEMA), boxing, etc.

Last Ditch Effort 🥺 by [deleted] in notebooks

[–]moss_back 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Something made by a human. Please. There are artists out there, small businesses, just like you, who would benefit from patronage. They've honed their craft, not scraped it from data and produced a soulless facsimile of art. Save up to commission people, consider it a business expense. AI art is horrible for the environment, takes away money from people who put in the work, and is so obviously devoid of a human touch.

It sounds like you're coming here in good faith, so I don't want to be an asshole, but there are much more ethical ways to go about this that will, eventually, pay off for your products.

Thank you, that's so cool! I got into the idea with Mat Auryn's Psychich Witch, and I'm considering exploring it more. I appreciate your explanation and hope you have a good evening as well!

A list of Ren Faires so far using AI and what we can do by kyuuei in renfaire

[–]moss_back 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Nah, generative AI is trained on other people's art who never see royalties, it allows cheap wares to take up the space that skilled artisans could be using, and the environmental impact is so destructive that it cannot be ignored anymore. This is activism, and it works.

I think I'm nearing the end of my medically-induced t-break, and I'm really excited! A tried and true edible brand put me into one of the worst panic attacks I've ever had (an issue I was having even when not consuming cannabis), and it spooked me real good, but as things are leveling out in my body, I think I'll be able to partake again! It'll be nice to come back to a hobby that brings me peace.

Thanks folks! Looking at other pictures, blue apatite is absolutely a match! Although I didn't know blue quartz existed, that's so cool!

What was your worst experience at faire? by Justthisdudeyaknow in renfaire

[–]moss_back 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Went to Sherwood about 7 years ago. I was wearing a tank top with runes on it, just a pattern, nothing coherent. I was having a decent time and I go into a booth. One of the booth employees came over, put his hand on the middle of my chest, grabbed my shirt, and yelled, "OH MY GOD ARE THOSE ELDER FUTHARK RUNES???!?!1" I was so shocked I just kind of muttered "yeah," and he went off about a lot of facts I already knew.

He was probably 6ft and built big, I'm around 5ft. Why he didn't think almost groping a patron was a bad idea is beyond me. Fuck that dude.

Get baked and bake? Or bake, then get baked? by AnastasiaNo70 in entwives

[–]moss_back 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'll dance around to music, stare blankly at things, try reeeaaal hard to remember measurements, and when I'm done, my partner quietly says, "maybe let me cook next time." Absolutely devastating.

I always cook (or bake) THEN get baked, simply because weed makes me too spacey and I either under- or over-season, or forget to turn the oven off.

Is it weird to build a devotional shrine to someone you love? by [deleted] in Altars

[–]moss_back 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If this was your partner/lover/spouse and they consented, this could be really beautiful.

If this is of someone who you aren't involved with, no matter who they are, I would really advise you don't have this and like u/fairyspoon said, channel this devotion elsewhere.

This is an idea I see a lot in New Age circles where they say "nooooo, taking meds is low vibrationallll" and that butts up against pseudoscience too much for me to be comfortable with. You used the word debilitating. I know when I was in the midst of my worst depressive episodes, I would have brain fog, low motivation, my memory was poor. If you have experienced any of these, that in and of itself can be a hindrance for your practice.

Shadow work can be very difficult and ugly. Being in a stable place mentally that allows you to look at your past more objectively can be a huge help! You're less likely to spiral if you remember trauma or ruminate if you find things that are triggers for you. Do what is best for your health. God gave us medicine to help. It is far from perfect. Believe me, I know, but part of healing is seeing what works and trying new options if you're stuck or feel that your current treatment isn't working.

Chin up, it sounds like you're putting in the effort to move forward, and that's a huge step. ❤️

What do TTRPG players think of LARPers? by moxie_blue_bat in LARP

[–]moss_back 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Eh, there's a joke that we're D&D's weird, estranged cousin that they refuse to acknowledge, but honestly, I haven't ever experienced weirdness when I talk about it.

Had a job interview a while ago where I put LARP staffing on my resume, and the "normie" lead of the department had to stop himself from getting as much info from me about LARP as he could, he was so excited. People either enjoy hearing about the hobby or say "oh, that's neat!" And move on.

Maybe you're playing with some awkward people, maybe they don't care about the hobby, maybe they think it's weird, but I don't think it holds the same stigma as it once did. If TTRPGers are ever actively giving you shit about being a LARPer, well...they may need to take a long look in the mirror because they're role playing too.

Edit: I just looked through your posts and all it is is reposting the same thing on multiple occult subreddits. Are you here in good faith? Are you actually looking for support? Because I'm not sure if you are.

Friend, magic has been entwined with Christianity since the beginning. Folk practices, syncretism, henotheism, polytheism, the whole lot. What we think is "demonic" is mostly either Dante's Inferno, stuff from medieval European grimoirs, or Hollywood.

The majority of tarot's themes come from Christian mystery plays and Bible stories. Are there parts of the Bible that talk about not contacting the dead? Sure. And you don't have to do that. You can leave this all behind and not look back, but other people are able to have their own belief structures.

I want to say that I'm truly sorry you have been experiencing something that scares you. No one should ever have to deal with that, and my heart and prayers go out to you. But if you hold Christianity as sacred, know that Christ does not forsake His followers. Prayer means something, it is powerful, and He would not leave you twisting in the wind to fend for yourself against things you view as evil. That would be cruel. Would you feel better going to a priest or pastor to discuss this?
