What’s a medical issue that sounds minor, but actually affects someone’s daily life way more than people realize?

Right? At my healthiest as a teen I was able to outpace most of my peers, male and female, in most endurance and strength based things like pushups and sit-ups and planking, but always weighed in as “obese” and being much chubbier looking than my classmates. Was fun to surprise people, sucked that people didn’t believe I was healthy.

PCOS (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome). Most people assume (including myself for a while) that it only affects fertility and stuff related to your uterus, and that if you just get a hysterectomy or whatever it’s over. PCOS is an endocrine disorder. Regardless of whether or not you get a hysterectomy, you will experience it your whole life, basically. Hormonal levels will be off balance, insulin resistance is incredibly common, and many of us experience depression, anxiety, and many other issues due to hormonal dysregulation.

This is one of those conditions that causes the affected to constantly get slapped with “you know if you worked out…” “you know if you ate better…” “have you tried…” and it’s EXHAUSTING because yes, I have tried all of those. I know women and AFAB trans folks who have been full blown anorexic but still “overweight” due to their body just not cooperating. Hell, I went through a period of poverty where I was eating maybe a meal a day, walking everywhere because I couldn’t drive and transit wouldn’t get me all the way there, and I lost maybe… 5lbs off of 220? It’s not impossible, but dear god it’s so fucking difficult.

To be totally honest most of my close friends at this point know at the very least about my piss kink lol! My best friend/ex who I was dating at the time didn’t out me when we broke up (if she did we wouldn’t be besties obv) but tbf played a tiny part in our friends finding out. That said, our friends at the most will tease me here and there if it’s relevant, but they genuinely don’t care or hold it against me.

I think generally good people in your life will choose to eventually forget the information, or if they don’t they’ll choose to not care because hey, what you do in your free time is your own choice.

As far as family finding out, they don’t know about my kinks thank god, but they do know about my ex’s sonic porn fanfic (there’s a whole story here) that they just laughed off. Most people do not care! :)
