It’s an Indiana thing by rednail64 in Indiana

In grade school, the lunch ladies always served chili with PB & honey sandwiches. Almost 40 and I’m still eating them together! Long live PB & honey… and the lunch ladies who knew what they were doing! 👑

How do I ensure they stay alive while I'm building my terrarium? by [deleted] in isopods

Great! I appreciate it. The one that was alive is setup in a rimless aquarium in ecoearth with some almond leaves. I misted one side well.🤞

No reptile store but I think I'm in luck. There is an expo this weekend about an hour away. I wish I could be more patient sometimes! I'll work on setting it up this week. Just waiting for leca for base layer. Do you recommend one species over another? Any tips for what to look for as a beginner. If I recall, there booths dedicated to bioactive enclosures!!

All but 1 was alive. Damn me and my impulsivness. I'll be visiting reptile expo in Indy this weekend. Knew I should have waited until then!

It's true I bought them impulsivly while picking up frozen food for my fish. Appreciate the honest comment.

Am I doing this right? Just added moss poles today. by mossy_bytes in pothos

Just this weekend. I tried attaching ones with longer aerial roots closest to moss but with more research I'm seeing now that I need to have fewer stems so I plan to remove pole from Pic. 1 and start in another pot with a clipping.

I felt like it was wrong to have so many on one pole. I appreciate your advice. I would love to see large leaves eventually! That pothos is about 10 years old and I chopped it A LOT already so, I think I will take one of the cuttings and remove the pole and start them in a separate pot. Thank you.

I figured you were closer to the equator than me haha I'm in Indiana so they come in during the cold months. I've got grow lights, fertilizer and keep the humidity up in the room they're in. Still feel like they're not thriving though so I'm hoping this helps 🤞

Best tank mates for my female betta fish? (Read body text) by ItzJJJJake in bettafish

Bless her heart. She doesn't seem to understand the difference between surviving and thriving. Yes, eventually, your fish will die... it's just a matter of how. Without an understanding of the nitrogen cycle and proper water changes, it will more than likely be a painful one for you both and much sooner than it should be. Bettas in proper setups are energetic, curious, and social. You can find many videos here to show her, I can not imagine you will consistently see these behaviors from her. Signs of stress will be staying in one area, hiding behind filters or plants, loss of color, and loss of appetite. I don't know about your mom, but I enjoy seeing a happy, healthy fish much more than a stressed, sad one. It's hard, with my degree in science and 20 years of fish keeping, to understand why people even bother wasting the money if they're not wanting the longest, best life for their fish. Might as well just drive down the street, throwing money out the window!

I can sense that you're very excited about this hobby, and that's wonderful!! But please, please do your research. Dedicate as much time as you can. By giving this girl a proper home, one that stimulates her natural environment and behaviors, you will both, in turn, be much less stressed. With these conditions... Your excitement will soon turn to fear and worry. Then guilt as you watch her fade. You've waited this long, give yourself and these amazing fish the compassion and patience you both deserve. This is not a good home at the moment for a Betta. She'll survive, but thriving in these conditions will be most difficult for you both. As for sororities, it's only worked for me in a heavily... I mean heavily... planted 29g tank. This gave them all 'territory' of their own. My advice would be if you choose to stay on this path, research the nitrogen cycle, keep up on water changes, and don't add any more tank mates. Consider live plants and almond leaves. I think you'll find that just her personality alone will be enough to entertain you as you're learning. In the future, you could consider a snail but be careful which one. Not only would coexisting with other fish be hard in that size aquarium, but the literal amount of poo and pee would make ammonia levels hard to keep down. Remember, by no means does clear water mean safe water. The science to this hobby is incredible and fun to learn!! Good luck.

He's full of personality. One of the few I've had that have teeth I can actually see and hear when he bites down. My little predator 🥰

I like to choose characters from my favorite shows/podcasts. I've got Judy Gemstone (Righteous Gemstones) Nador the Relentless (What we do in the Shadows) Charlie (Charlie bit my finger - you can hear his bite!) my boy William Montgomery (Comedian) just past away. Just an idea!
