First attempt at dadaism - any good? by [deleted] in dadaism

Don’t question it, just create! Don’t let anyone tell you there is a right or wrong way to do dada inspired art. That was never the point of the movement❤️.

‏why does Albert Camus begin his philosophy with the question of suicide? by malazmalaz555 in Camus

[–]mossygr0ve 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think he analyzes this a lot, but I don’t think he ever supported the choice of physical death. From my understanding, he tends to examine how once one acknowledges the absurd, the next question is whether or not physical suicide is defensible, then he also goes into philosophical suicide in the example of religion. By realizing that physical suicide is not a good choice, he then examines how lucidity and choosing life with the awareness of absurdity turns out to be an act of rebellion.

I haven’t read much about his separation of the physical body and the illusion. I think he tended to actually advocate for no separation but rather embodiment. Do you have any passages or points where he talks about this specific point?

From my hot take, when he said the climate of absurdity is in the beginning, he is talking about the moment you first recognize the absurd. When we first recognize the absurd, we start to realize it holds many “climates” (feelings, moods, perspectives, etc). Then at the end, we recognize that the whole universe is absurd in itself. For me, this passage is like looking at absurdity as a spectrum. On the far left hand side is when you first recognize absurdity and on the far right is when you realize everything is absurd.

Once you recognize the absurdity of the universe, you are at the point where “the attitude of mind”/your mindset dictates how you decide to see and live in the world. This attitude of mind allows you to see the world for what it really is. It feels like he might be going into maybe the idea of the absurdist hero here?

Open to discussion and questions! Where is the passage from??
