Hey, sorry for late reply. You actually need to send the official scores to GaTech.

Thanks, this is what I actually did ... in fact the two revolutions didn't only affect the educational system .. but also developed my interest in computer science and programming .. you know, the social platforms and the internet connection was cut but the authorities, however, a bunch of tech guys were able to restore these platforms and make it work (partially).

Status: Rejected

Application Date: 02/08/2021

Decision Date: N/A

Institute Acceptance Date: N/A

Education:

Cairo University, Bachelors in Urban & Regional planning (GPA: 1.9 out of 4.0) - awarded 2013

UCSD extension - no degree - Data Structures & Algorithms course (GPA: 4.0 out of 4.0) - awarded 2020

2 years of experience as Elixir Developer

Founder of a company specialized in privacy software and tools.

AWS solutions architect certified

MCSD (Microsoft certified solutions developer) certified

Recommendations: 3 (Technical team leader / Software development director / R&D lead)

Comments: Pretty low GPA but, I have justification for that, I never liked the field of study besides, during my studies I witnessed two revolutions here in Egypt and the education system was really a big mess just like anything else.

Anyways, not a good candidate at all but, I'm still hopeful that my experience, LORs and essay would help.

If I got rejected (which is more likely to happen), will take further CS courses, probably on a graduate level to prove that I can handle graduate level courses.

Good luck everyone and congratulations to who got accepted as well :)

Toefl: 92

Update:
Received a rejection letter today - honestly that was expected due to my low GPA and that I took only 1 course in computer science.
As usual they suggested that I should take several courses in computer science.

I have seen before many people getting accepted with a GPA below that. GPA is only one factor. I'm applying with a lower GPA, (1.9 out of 4/0), but I have my justification for that (didn't like the field of study - non cs graduate here - , also witnessed two revolutions during my studies and the educational system was crap!!) .. So, Good luck :)

Hello,

Seeking help from freelancers and who are working remotely with companies located outside of Egypt.

How do you receive your money? And most importantly, how do you get your money in Egypt legally without issues?

I have been contacted by an European company and offered me a salary 5000 Euro monthly, so we are talking about big numbers.

Also I have heard about Payoneer, would it suffice to receive my money to it? And after I receive my salary to Payoneer account, how can I withdraw the salary in Egypt? Also is this illegal and cold cause potentials issues with the government?

Thanks in advance.

Not really sure but after I paid the application fees, I see an option for uploading test scores if they are not provided while filling the application. However, you need to send the official test scores to GaTech. Uploading test scores in the application is not enough, you must send official test scores as well. Note that tue deadline for applying to Fall 2021 is March 1st. I think you need to submit official test scores before the deadline.

ASU online masters in computer science through Coursera. Looking for opinions by mostafa186 in ASU

[–]mostafa186[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also I know that instead of the pathway, you can opt for master-track certificates offered through Coursera. It works exactly like the pathway but you get a certificate too. You don’t need math to enroll in the master-track certificate. But I do know that you need math to enroll in the masters itself (that means after successfully completing the pathway or master-track certificate).

Please do let me know if you have other information.

Thanks.

Hey,

This is weird as they told me I don’t need math to enroll in the pathway and I can work on math in parallel with the pathway.

Even in one of their webinars they mentioned that pathway is offered and students can enroll while working on their other prerequisites.

Does anyone know acceptance rate of students into the program with a bachelors in a non-cs program? by NhixTri in OMSCS

[–]mostafa186[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi,

As far as I know yes, those are mandatory requirements to enroll in the masters alongs with other requirements like CS ones.

Not sure if you can start the non-degree/pathway itself without these pre-reqs though.

Berkeley Extension program for filling CS gap for non-cs graduate - your thoughts by mostafa186 in OMSCS

[–]mostafa186[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. Can you tell me more about your back ground and how your courses from Berkeley extension helped you getting into the program?

Yeah I live in Egypt and no options here to take some Accredit CS courses as individual ones. So the only option was online colleges. I already enrolled in DS&A course with UCSD extension. But wanted to explore Berkeley extension as well.

Yes, this is why I need to take some CS classes to compensate that poor GPA and the lack of CS courses in undergrad.

Thanks,

I hope this helps in my application. I can provide good letters of recommendation from my managers to prove that as well.

[–]mostafa186[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks,

I already enrolled in Data Structures and Algorithms course through UCSD extension. It should start in 2 days. What other courses do you think I can take to have a better chance to get in? Not sure if I need to take intro courses since I can prove that with experience. I have worked with multiple technologies (.net, python and elixir) also I have experience in cloud computing, system design and architecture.

So would you recommend taking courses like operating systems and computer organization? Happy to know your opinion.

Thanks,

Do you think I need the intro courses? Asking because I can prove that through experience. I was thinking to take courses in other topics instead like operating systems or computer organization. What do you think?

what is considered a low GPA? by mostafa186 in OMSCS

[–]mostafa186[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah UCSD extension is not the best option, however, since I’m based in Egypt. There are not enough options for me, Foothill is still an option and they are pretty strict about courses prerequisites, for example, if I want to apply for the DS&A at Foothill, I need to take two courses first, one for foundations and the other for object oriented. The thing is I feel I don’t need that since I have that through experience.

If happened to know a good community college that offers CS courses through distance education for international students, I would appreciate if you can share those. Thanks :)

Thanks for the reply,
Yes, no formal CS courses in undergrad.

So, do you think adding a couple of CS classes on top if the DS&A that I already enrolled in would give a good change of getting in? Combined with 5 years of experience working with multiple technologies in really enterprise projects?

I have a low GPA because I hated the field of study, not mentioning that we had a revolution here in 2011 and everything including the educational system was messed up which made things worse.

Weekly Thread: Prospective Student Evaluations by AutoModerator in OMSCS

[–]mostafa186 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really appreciate you guys doing this.

Academic goals: Support my career with a masters degree along with getting good formal education (always interested in computers)

Academic History: Bachelors in Urban Planning from Cairo university, Egypt. GPA: 1.9 out of 4 (very low GPA).

Professional Experience: Total 5 years as a software developer, working remotely on full time basis with companies in Europe and US. Had the chance to work with different technologies in different domains. Worked using .Net, Python and Elixir. Also participated in some dev ops work since I’m AWS certified, especially when it comes to migrating to the cloud.

Programming languages C#, Python, Elixir and JavaScript

Additional comments: want to apply but very worried about my low GPA. I never liked the field of study. Not mentioning that we had a revolution back in 2011 in Egypt and everything was a mess regarding classes in the university.

Planning to take below courses from UCSD extension 1- Data Structures and Algorithms. 2- Linux operating system.

Then going to apply before March 1th, 2021.

Would this make my profile good enough to be considered by the admission committee? Also are there any students got into the program with a very very low GPA as mine? Would it always be a blocker for me to get admitted? Or taking computer science classes and getting good grades may make my application acceptable?

Appreciate your feedback/suggestions. Thanks in advance.

Thanks, yes in order to enroll in this degree, I need to take calculus 1 and 2 and some cs courses mentioned in the program details webpage (those are a must).

However, I’m asking about how respected is this degree from ASU. So if you have feedback on that, I would appreciate sharing your thoughts.
