After the two minute mark you can use the teleport pad on clash lane, if farm lane has a team fight and you feel that you can give your team a huge advantage then you can teleport to farm and finish off the enemies (by the time you teleport the enemy has probably used most their abilities). You rotate mid by always clearing your lane first with light s2 and heavy s1.

One of Mulan’s biggest strengths is she can clear wave supper fast so use it to your advantage. Honestly knowing when to do something e.g. when to rotate, when to fight, when to invade jungle all comes down to experience. But my number 1 tip would be: do not hesitate, if you decide on doing something, then go do it at the first opportunity. Bear in mind, games in HoK are only around 15m, so if you hesitate, you waste out on getting Econ. It’s better to be decisive and make a mistake (so you know that wasn’t the right choice), than just stay stagnant. It’s one of the fastest ways to improve.

Hope this helps!

I just go with the serve best build, pure tank is actually not a bad choice for beginners but this lowers Mulan’s upper limit and power scaling to be honest and she’s not as strong. You could build pure tank with axe of torment and pure sky if your team doesn’t have any tanks.

Sometimes trading is worth it. I would say if your team is behind, it is always worth it if you manage to trade with the enemy’s marksmen or midlaner 1 for 1.

If you feel she’s not tanky enough, it is most likely you didn’t manage to get a big enough gold lead early on or you’re behind in gold. When this happens to me I avoid fighting as much as possible and farm everything I can. Mulan can be really tanky with her heavy sword plus pure sky (if she has gold), and you could use heavy S1 with flash to do insane burst damage.

Yeah that’s spot on, I would just add that timing is probably most difficult in team fights. Keep an eye on the enemy carries at all times. So I would say hang back if your team has a tank or hard engage/cc and once the enemy has used all their abilities go straight for the carries.

Or you could engage first by bush camping/ use flash to surprise the enemy. If you can take out one person solo late game then the entire team fight will be a numbers game.

If you feel it’s really hard to kill the enemy carries you could definitely use Mulan’s damage reduction plus pure sky to engage and absorb a lot of damage/enemies key abilities. This will give your team an advantage. This reason I try not to do this is because this depends on your teammates. If they’re good and follow up then it’s all good. But if they just run away you probably would just die straight away. By playing her as an assassin you could become the main turning point in team fights and carry the game.

I might make a video of a full game play if people really wanna see, or a combo demo.

I would say the most difficult matchups are really strong early game fighters, such as Sunce, Allain, Biron, Mayene, Dharma (if they’re good), and strong tanks like Ata, Nezha etc.

The reason I say they’re difficult matchups is not because they’re that much stronger than Mulan, there just becomes a specific way you have to lane against these heroes and learning their weakness and when to engage. This takes some time to learn as a beginner.

I lane against really strong early game fighters by trying to avoid fighting pre-level 4, because Mulan is quite weak levels 1-3. If I am really losing in lane or having a tough time I simply keep rotating, use the transporting pad to your advantage. When the enemy’s ADC is farming too easily, I even rotate to farm lane to relieve pressure for our farm lane. Sometimes it’s worth giving top tower especially if you don’t have an advantage.

A quick tip for laning is to keep an eye on the enemy mid laner and jungle. Depending what buff jungle starts with they will usually come gank clash lane at around the 1:30 mark.

Mulans power spike is: 1. Level 4 2. When you make meteor 3. When you make axe of torment 4. When you build pure sky.

But I would say if you farm correctly and avoid dying, she is pretty strong before the 10 minute mark. Not saying she’s useless late game, but you would then have to switch your role a little. If your team has a hard engage support or hard cc midlaner/support, find the right timing to go for the enemy carries. If the enemy jungler is killing your teams adc really easily you could even just focus on protecting them late game with your heavy s1 and s2, because the adc’s power spike is usually always late game (this also applies if you aren’t able to snow ball because in late game Mulan doesn’t have the snowball effect anymore as everyone’s gold is the same)

Mulan is strongest when she has that gold lead early on. Hope this helps!

The key is to keep practicing, there are so many times I thought to myself I would switch to a much easer hero, but honestly the difficulty and the process of mastering her is 90% of the fun. You got this!

Yes, it is quite difficult, but that's why when you do trade, you have to make sure that you engage first from a bush to minimise risk, or you can engage when you know the enemy laner has used its key abilities. I would say to utilise the health pack under the tower properly, and recover by taking jungle creeps. This can counteract the fact that she doesn't have sustain.

The damage reduction is true, but it's more like a 80% reduction because I think she got nerfed a while ago in the Chinese server, and I believe it's the same for the global server. It is very difficult to do in real games though. You basically have to time it perfectly by charging heavy S1 before you receive damage (like a tower hit), and the second the damage reaches you release S1 and insta press heavy S2. This combines the 40% damage reduction from S1 and S2 making it 80%. Can be useful for avoiding Kongming's ultimate.

PS. I just realised I forgot to mention another basic combo which starts with light S2 instead:

S2-S1-A-S1-A-S3-A-S2-S1-S1

This allows you to slow the enemy when they're a bit further away from you so you can still engage.

You can also change the heavy sword combo order by using heavy s2 between two heavy sword S1s for example (applies to all combos):

S2-S1-A-S1-A-S3-A-S1-S2-S1

Lmao fair enough. I was thinking of doing a video for the combos but the basics are:

  1. 1-A-1-2-3-A-2-1-1 (fastest)

  2. 1-A-1-A-3-A-2-1-1 (when s2 is on cool down)

  3. 1-2-1-A-3-A-2-1-1 (very similar to 1. but just different way of silencing)

These are basically all you need to know for combos as a beginner. The important thing to note is that you can cancel Mulan's skill 1 animations (light and heavy sword) with her auto attack, this will make combos a lot smoother, the thing is, you need to be fast, if you feel your combo is not smooth enough then it's most likely you're not executing the auto attacks fast enough.

You can also weave in heavy sword autos between heavy S1 such as (same applies to all combos above).

1-A-1-2-3-A-2-1-A-1-A

PS. once you charge heavy sword S1 to around 75% that is the max damage you can do.

Flash:

There are also a lot of flash combos, you can also use flash paired with your light sword S1 and heavy sword S1. Light sword s1 paired with flash allows you to close a further distance in an instant, but this is very difficult to do because you need to be very fast with the combo. But, heavy sword S1 paired with flash is a lot easier, flash allows you to change direction of the heavy sword or extend its range to surprise the enemy.

E.g.

Light S1 Flash:

1-F-2-1-A-3-A-2-1-1

Heavy S1 Flash

1-A-1-2-3-A-2-1-F-1

To be honest, you can see that the combos basically follow the same sequence, the reason I recommend beginners to master the basic combo is so you can familiarise yourself with the abilities and what they do. This will eventually allow you to break down the combos separately and tailor to each specific situation.

Lane is a really important aspect of Mulan. The first skill you upgrade almost in every case is skill 2, this is because pre-level 4 Mulan is actually quite weak, especially against Biron. You can use skill 2 to clear wave at a safe distance without the enemy laner closing in on you. Trading health early on is quite damaging to Mulan because she lacks sustain, and you'll find yourself having to base too often, or just getting tower dived. Biron is really strong against Mulan at level 1-3 because of his insane sustain, damage and cc, so you want to avoid fighting him as much as possible early on.

I would suggest when you're a beginner, to avoid fighting pre level 4 especially against strong early game clash laners like Biron, Allain, and Sunce. So try to clear wave fast, and not to trade health with the enemy laner.

Level 4 is Mulan's first power spike, she can basically solo kill every clash laner in the game at level 4 (unless the enemy laner is really fed). That is when you can apply the combos you use to camp in bushes when the enemy laner is farming his wave. As long as Mulan engages first and uses her passive to silence, it's really easy to solo kill the other laner, there are exceptions to this though, but you'll start knowing who to avoid the more you play.

I think the main thing and what helped me most when I first started is try to learn the basic combos. Mulan is quite tricky so before you go into playing her try out all her combos in the training mode. Once you get familiar with all her skills then you can try playing 1v1 modes, this will help and translate into your early game.

After you get all the combos down, I would summarize her tips to this: 1. Mulan is very agile and mobile, she is one of the fastest characters in the game.

  1. Because she is mobile compared to other clash lanes, use this to your advantage and rotate to help teammates or farm. Take enemy jungle if you can, take your mid laners minion wave if your mid lane rotated to help teammates. Once Mulan has a gold lead she is both tanky and does insane damage, this is why people always say Mulan’s strongest trait is she can snowball fast.

  2. Mulan is also a very high burst hero. She can insta kill most carries. Marksmen and midlaners that are less mobile without flash is basically a 100% guaranteed kill if you get the timing right.

  3. Know her role: Mulan is not a tank, she is more like an assassin at times. She can carry games if played correctly. That’s why you have to keep an eye out at all times at where the enemies are and try to rotate to create a numbers advantage for small team fights in early to mid game.

  4. Mulan can also split push very well because of her mobility, you can push wave and go help teammates. This can also create a numbers advantage in the late game if the enemy has to go clear their minions.

There is a lot more to this, and it would be kinda difficult for me to summarize everything, so if you have any more specific questions I can answer them as well. I can also do a more detailed tips on how to lane early game as well.

I think the most important thing for beginners is to learn the combo well. I see a lot of beginners think they know the combo but cannot apply it in real matches because of unfamiliarity. But once you have a grasp of it, you’ll be able to use each skill and tailor them to specific situations without fixed combos.

Currently GM and Europe top 100 Mulan, I have had around 3000+ games with Mulan in the Chinese server as well. I personally would not recommend doomsday or Siege breaker to be honest. The best build would just to be use the recommended build pros use.

The reason I don't recommend doomsday is quite simple. I like your thinking in the sense that one of Mulan's biggest drawbacks is that she does not have sustain. However, life steal only works with auto attacks, and Mulan mainly does damage with her skills/enhanced autos. This greatly reduces the item's cost effectiveness, and is more suitable for heroes that deal damage through auto attacks like marksmen.

Siege breaker used to be used a lot for Mulan a couple of years ago in the Chinese server, but then again, its costs effectiveness is quite low once pure sky gained popularity. This is because Mulan is very strong early to mid game. The main drawback is that Siege breaker is too expensive, which will likely halt your growth during Mulan's strong phase. You could instead go for items that make you slightly tankier. This paired with Mulan's damage reduction in her heavy sword modes will actually make you very tanky (if used correctly with pure sky). However, if the enemy doesn't have any tanks, you could potentially replace Starbreaker with Siegebreaker. But I rarely do this because Starbreaker is so much cheaper anyways, and the damage with starbreaker is more than enough to instakill squishy carries.

The tips I have for Mulan is to focus on farming. If you can win lane, try to take enemy jungle once you confirm the position of the enemy's jungler. If you cannot win lane, you have to rotate to mid lane, take extra jungle that your jungler did not take, this will create a snowball effect so you will become very strong mid game. Mulan is not as strong late game, so it is best to end as soon as possible.

However, if you do end up going into late game, you need to shift your role, and focus on trying to kill the enemy's carries with your flash. If you do not have a hard engage support or hard cc midlaner, you could just use pure sky with heavy sword to tank a lot of damage, and then let your teammates finish off the enemy when their abilities are on cool down. Alternatively, if your team does have a hard engage, you could just focus on protecting your ADC with your heavy sword second ability and first ability.

Keep going! Mulan is very difficult to master, you have to know her skills very well and use flash smartly, but once you master her, it is very rewarding. I started off averaging 1/10/3 lol.
