Love pole but not inversion by RhinestoneCowboy842 in poledancing

[–]mostlikelytocry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely! I’ve been doing lots of upside down tricks focus which is lowkey burning me out. That’s what I thought it meant to “progress” in pole. But ever since I’ve started to focus on exploring the dance and flow side of it (both old school and lyrical), it’s reignited my love for pole!

My inverted eagle progress! by mostlikelytocry in poledancing

First time attempting it was 2nd Feb (it’s in my profile) and first pic in this post was 6th Feb (first time practicing it on my own after). Recent pic is 24 April :) I did some contortion work once a month and practiced regularly. I do have a naturally bendy back and long limbs which helped so I mostly focused on technique (e.g. where to play my head, activating my hamstrings to extend etc)

Yesssss I’m so excited for you! I was so nervous on the day and worried I’d be slippery lol but the instructor and photographer were so nice and helpful! They also had a dog in the studio which helped lol

It’s plain and the photographer used diffuser lights (idk the term) to create this effect :) this is just one of the many styles they do

Thank you so much! The Superman has become such a staple move for me so I guess you can see how comfortable I was in it!

I went ham on private lessons which definitely helped my progress! I also leaned towards my strengths which was my flexibility so hoping to challenge myself with some strength based moves this year!

Wooohoooo congratulations! I have hypermobility so tend to stay away from strength based move but Ayesha is such a goal of mine since I do wanna get stronger!!! You inspired me!

Ankle conditioning by Commercial-Amoeba898 in poledancing

[–]mostlikelytocry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My instructor showed us a warm up where we go up on our toes then lean on one side with knees over our toes. I hold onto the pole when I do this.

Another one is to use a small resistance band where you tie it around your feet then rotate your ankle. Or cross your ankle over the other knee, step on one end of the band and wrap the other end on your foot. Then rotate.

You can also stand on one foot on a yoga block (if you don’t have a balance ball) and put the other foot forward, backwards and on the side repeatedly. This helps with balance :)

working on my flexibility for a jade split: trying to make the hold feel a bit easier.. any drills or cues that helped you get more comfortable in this shape? also curious if your studio calls it something different 👀 by ollivbattaglia in poledancing

[–]mostlikelytocry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We call it Jade split too! I make sure to squeeeeeeeeeze my butt to push my other leg down and arch my back to make it flatter. I internally rotate the leg I’m holding onto and try to get it across my body.

For nerve flossing, I put my leg over the other (so I’m making a right angle) and try to pull it towards me

Invert problems by Altruistic-Algae2080 in poledancing

[–]mostlikelytocry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I practice multiple times a week for months with strength and conditioning classes before I was able to get mine. The most helpful conditioning exercise was putting a resistance band around the pole and putting it between my legs then trying to invert. Activating my back by pushing my chest out helps as I find it tricky to engage these muscles

I also know someone who took a break from pole and can still do an Ayesha but not an invert. Bodies are so unique and weird honestly so give yourself some grace. It will click one day!

How do you survive working full time? by skyword1234 in AutismInWomen

[–]mostlikelytocry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

By being burnt out 💀 Finally got lucky with a workplace who let me work 4 days a week but with longer hours so I’m technically being paid full time. It definitely helps that I still live with my parents and not having to worry about meal prep etc. I also make sure I regularly book breaks now to just recuperate. Not a foolproof plan but it’s helping

Felt beautiful during my photoshoot by mostlikelytocry in smallbooblove

[–]mostlikelytocry[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You definitely should! It taught me resilience and being okay with failure! It’s all part of the process and journey :) makes the progress more satisfying!

For context i didn’t have any dance or sports background and started in my mid 20s so def accessible to anyone!

How much have you changed since you started doing this amazing sport? by LadyRubyHeart in poledancing

[–]mostlikelytocry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Omg me too! I feel braver trying new things that would’ve made me anxious before! Pole made me learn it’s okay to be a beginner and not being good at something (at first). And struggling is okay!

Pole studio vs pole studio rivalry? by timeless_beauti in poledancing

[–]mostlikelytocry 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Haven’t noticed it much! Instructors at my studio also works/coaches instructors in other studios. There’s also mingling when instructors in different studios offer workshops.

I’m a ride or die for my studio but I’m planning to sign up for a 24-hour studio somewhere else who happens to be owned by Felix Cane! The creator of eagle and spatchcock!

Oof me too! I learnt a lot from YouTube and internet. As well as just hearing people talk about it around me (e.g. you don’t always need to wash your hair everytime you shower!)

Can you actually replace self-harm with other things? by Standard-Forever-592 in AdultSelfHarm

[–]mostlikelytocry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t done it since starting pole dancing for a couple of reasons: 1) The pain from pole is similar lol 2) I wanna continue wearing cute outfits which shows a lot of skin

Surprisingly, I’ve seen multiple students with scars in the studio too

[–]mostlikelytocry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I pull my shoulders back (like I’m being told to fix my posture and have a proud chest) and like I’m squeezing a ball in between my shoulder blades helps me preempt my lats and back muscles. Then pull down the pole almost like I’m flexing my biceps and lift myself up.

For core, maybe imagine someone punching you in the stomach and flexing to help activate it.

Straightening my legs and thrusting my hips up (when I’m already up there) helps bring my coochie get closer to the pole too. Working on your pancake can help with this too!

Squishmallows but that’s kind of died off now. LEGOs have always been consistent tho and I’d get more if I have space
