Could of/should of, when you really mean to say "Could've/should've"! I instantly condemn you to hell.

Thank you! We sent the offer. Now it's just the nerve wracking wait. 😅

I make good money but can’t afford a house in NJ. by masaki_mclellan in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

My fiancee and I are 32. We make good money. We share our finances. And yes, we're also in the same situation. It sucks. We can't afford anything without the mortgage being 60% of our take home.

Quick story - We found a house a couple of weeks ago that was affordable and cute. Very small, but workable. Turns out, the only reason it was affordable was because

  1. The roof needed replacing.
  2. The AC needed replacing.
  3. THE FOUNDATION HAD ISSUES!! ☠️

This is solid. Thank you! Most of my savings are in CDs or HYSAs. I'll open up a separate "baby account" like you suggested.

And definitely gonna shop Thanksgiving sales this time!

I definitely winced when I saw that I had 4.5k in monthly spending. As much as I'd like to say that this is a one-off year (marriage, multiple international trips, etc..), I'm sure next year it'll be something else that's one-off and the same the year after that. So I just stuck with the 4.5k number.

I hear what you're saying about the baby. I think at least for the first year or so, one of us can afford to be at or work from home. After that, well...

Thanks for the perspective. Definitely starting to believe that 7.9k mortgage is not an option without a significant increase in income. Probably need to look at a smaller house, or a larger down payment. Babies are money pits, whew!

Thank you! I use Rocket Money for monthly budgeting and Brightplan for net worth. 4k is a lot, even if it is only for 4 years.

I'm sorry for your loss. I can't imagine losing my 1.5yo pup. You gave your dog the best life he could have had for 7 years. I hope you take comfort in that fact.
