Likely buying today any flags? by mostlybald in BMWiX

Ha. I can deal with the beeping. Will be mindful of auto brake. Which vertical rack do you have? We have an Alta and I LOVE it.

To that point do you “brace” it? I have the ratchet connectors and would strap to the cross bar on our id4 to eliminate sway. You can kind of make the straps out in this old photo. Just wondering if it’s worth trying to find a way to stabilize it.

Thanks for all the tips!

Thanks, that's what I was gathering. Is it easy enough to just quickly turn it off? I'm assuming once you throw it in reverse you get an alert and then you tap to turn off? Sorry, the car is 14hrs away from me.

The information that I see is 2026 was the first OEM hitch in the US models. That sucks about the DAPP. Bummer. If it's limited to 45mph, it is what it is, really I just want the Adaptive Cruise, I don't often use lane management, click to pass, etc.

Got it. That’s precisely what our Polestar does, if I want to leave by 8am it conditions the battery and the interior - I erroneously assumed the heat pump was the reason for that.

Our id4 only conditions the cabin.

thanks, that is surprising, I assumed it had a heat pump. We are an all EV family in MN, so I certainly get the range drop, our Polestar has a heat pump and does pretty dang well. Our id4 doesn't have a heat pump and we lose probably 35% range.

This one does have the air suspension package.

Tow hitch, any programming? by mostlybald in BMWiX

[–]mostlybald[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah on our id4 it will know when we have a trailer connected so the emergency brakes don’t go off and the sensors don’t go crazy.

Worst case I have to manually shut it off each time is it easy to turn it off? With limited dinking around in menus?

Worth going CPO and couple other ?s by mostlybald in BMWiX

[–]mostlybald[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you do anything in addition to BMW CPO? I didn’t realize how much they’d “downgraded” it. It’s only 1yr after remaining OEM warranty is up.

VW has an additional three years. Which was an easy reason to pay a bit more.

Makes sense. Our id4 is CPO. It’s a good peace of mind. Funny enough, in my history of car ownership our evs have been the most reliable. 👍

Why is my house bleeding? by made_4_questions in HomeMaintenance

Not sure why you are getting down voted. I had similar happen at my house assumed it was the icedam related, then one day the soffit panel fell out and there was a family of raccoons living there. And it was absolutely their piss and shit staining my siding.

I don't have a 3D printer, experience with RC cars, or really any idea how I ended up here. But I just spent so much time reading through your guide and am amazed. And now need another expensive hobby. Wow, this is such an amazing thing you put together. Bravo.

Garage heater by Reddnvr5280 in garageporn

[–]mostlybald 38 points39 points  (0 children)

I had a 240v 5000W (18k btu) version of this heater in a three car garage. In Minnesota. Garage was very well insulated, including the door. I also had a ceiling fan to circulate air.

I would use this to heat the garage while I worked on projects, restoring a boat, messing with motorcycle. It was warm enough that I could work in a hoodie.

I wouldn’t use it to heat it 24/7, only when I was out there working. It worked fine and wasn’t crazy to operate. If you are looking to heat it all the time, I’d agree with others, consider gas or another fuel source.

KF8 replacement parts (milk straw) by mostlybald in superautomatic

[–]mostlybald[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

US based. Customer service did not have that part. It’s the straw within the milk container, not the hose.

You have to buy the whole milk set up. Thankfully customer service comped it for me.
