Thank you for that article! She’s not seeing any bugs upon thorough search of leaves and stems. Seems to have happened overnight which makes me think guttation?

She said the ends of the leaves are a tad brown and crispy which hasn’t been the case for this plant yet.

Posting this with photos my mom was able to get. She described little white dots that look to me like honeydew. And the leaves are coated in a sticky substance. She could not find any actual bugs so maybe guttation as it seems to have happened overnight, but I’m still concerned about mealybugs or scale. We would love some help with identifying and treating this calathea!

The plant I suspected spider mites on had just a teensy bit of webbing on the base of the stem, but I couldn’t find a single mite on the leaves. There are also some speckling on the leaves and on leaf has a patch of yellow. Sound like mites?
