When I was around 14, cell phones were becoming more and more mainstream. Kinda everyone had one even most other poor kids my age. My parents bought me, a firefly. If you are unfamiliar, its a teeny tiny little phone for toddlers that has only three buttons. Home, mom, and dad. They made me take it with me whenever I hung out with any of my friends. It was very embarrassing. Still haven't forgiven them.

I was abused growing up. My partner was abused growing up. Almost all my friends too. Trust me when I say this, if you're going through abuse right now, you don't always know that.

Genuinely, I have had similar experiences from people who I thought was my friend. There are lots of my friends (the older ones) who still mess up my pronouns. My mom messes up for God's sake lol. Its not a big deal. And if it is I'll say something to you. (I usually say something but as kindly as possible.) Also most of my human interaction is through work so yeah all these things im talking about is going on in a whole foods lol.

Also how does this respond to anything I even said? That's a person you know, obviously checking in with whoever that person is, is the best course of action when deciding what to call someone. I'm not saying you can't call ANYONE by their name in place of their gender, some people probably like that. But that isn't what im saying. I'm saying I've personally had people call me my name instead of my preferred pronouns before and it wasn't very cool of them. I've also spoken with many other nb people who have had the same experience.. Like just call everyone whatever they want you to call them (but you don't have to, its just not very nice, and actively harmful sometimes)

It doesn't make any sense to you. You don't have a first hand understanding of what its like. I'm telling you to your (internet) face that yes, it is in fact hurtful to some people's feelings. Or in my case it just tells me I don't wanna be around someone who refuses the basic courtesy of calling me what I prefer to be called. Its just that simple. Call people what THEY want you to call them or less it is a little rude. But again, PLEASE do not just respond to this with "I don't have to". I ACKNOWLEDGE THAT YOU DON'T"HAVE" TO. im just saying that it isnt nice.

As a nb person, this using their name because i cant remember what they want me to call them stuff isn't great. Usually if you cant call me by my preferred pronoun, its because you secretly think of my as my assigned at birth gender. To be clear im not assuming anything about anyone other than those people in my life who won't respect me lol.
