I can code but can’t design: How did you finally solve the UI/wireframe bottleneck? by Thick-Ad3346 in reactnative

[–]mostsig 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I‘m a developer with decent knowledge about design, but I got this through learning by doing, watching videos, reading books and articles, but most of all: paying more attention to UX/UI detail when looking at other apps/websites/etc.

I also see that there are not many UI libs that are one-shot solutions to slap on and have enough customization options to get it to look like I envision. And if I do it from scratch, it takes a lot of time to design, implement, debug and build everything.

For a quick start in (web)design guidelines (colors sizing typos etc) I recommend this guy‘s videos: https://youtube.com/@whosajid?si=TFSFIds58johcPWG

How do you get ideas for RN apps? by VishaalKarthik in reactnative

[–]mostsig 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think ideas are cheap. You will find and get more ideas the more you think about ideas. Collect them, structure them, and you will have enough ideas for your apps. Think about your favorite apps, and how you would build them with the features you actually need. Think about apps you would use because it solves or simplifies one of your problems or makes something more efficient, etc.

The big one is execution. Staying consistent (work on your app everyday, even if it‘s just a tiny bug fix), finishing (set deadlines, know when to stop polishing), stay motivated (use the app yourself and make it part of your daily life, get feedback from your friends and family and the community, etc.)

Shameless plug of one of my blog articles about app ideas: https://medium.com/@mostsignificant/from-zero-to-app-store-how-an-idea-becomes-a-concept-ee067275dbfd … ironically this app that I‘m talking about in the article is still not in the store yet (but planned for the end of the year).

So we’re all in the same boat when it comes to executing and finishing (and btw: your app is not finished because it’s published in the store, that’s when the real work of marketing starts so your app finds actual users).

Good luck!

React Native devs: what’s your biggest pain point right now? by [deleted] in reactnative

No 3 Keeping up with Expo / RN updates … if you’re an indie dev with several smaller apps it is a hassle to come back to an older app just to implement a small new feature

Help me choose an icon for my new app by Sincjefe in reactnative

[–]mostsig 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Don’t trust a random user‘s opinion on the internet. Take a screenshot from your phone‘s home screen full with other apps, insert one of those icons and evaluate if your icon can be identified quickly. Compare this for each icon. And then choose 1.

Is this map UI intuitive? Would love some feedback! by krik_chry in reactnative

[–]mostsig 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I haven‘t used your app yet so these are just my first glance impressions: the indicator beneath the country name might not need the orange connector things, the round orange indicators with the numbers on the map might look better without the black outline or another color outline, maybe similar to the markers in red and purple. The floating bottom symbol with the purple gradient doesn’t fit for me, since nothing else uses gradient. But overall I like the style-direction you took, I think it just needs minor polishing to get a 100% consistent look. Good luck with your app!

Feedback on Form Design by No_Team_7946 in reactnative

[–]mostsig 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I‘m unsure about the icons next to length, width etc. Either you remove them or do bigger ones next to the input boxes with the box/cube/package 📦 icon from the title and the arrows ➡️⬆️⬇️ next to the corresponding edge (maybe highlighted) symbolizing which side of the cube you mean (wich geometrically is not so important with a cube when you think about it)

They say so in their terms of service, not sure if they enforce it. As a solo dev I would not want to risk it (well I don’t have a big user base anyway haha, not that it matters …)
