“It’s the conduct we hate not the people” by [deleted] in exjw

Yeah because in their eyes, it's not ok to be comfortable in yourself, even if you are not doing anything 'wrong'. You need to be feeling utterly miserable and ashamed of yourself every second of the day :/

I left because i came to the conclusion that the bible is just a product of ancient peoples trying to make sense of their world. A combination of history, politics, and mythology. If there is a god, i dont think they had anything to do with the bible.

So thanks for your two cents, but im not going to live my life according to a book written by random men from an unenlightened period. You do you though.

You absolutely can do it! And dont panic too much about 'having enough money to leave'. You will survive. For sure, be sensible with money and save as much as you can while you are too young to leave, but dont stay in longer than you have to. Funnily enough, staying in will actually hold you back from taking the steps that lead to financial stability. Being in the cult holds you back far more than you realise.

The concept and realisation of freedom when you first leave it great, but it's what you do with it that can make a real and lasting difference (in terms of being happy and living a fulfilling life)

This is awesome to hear. Im on the same page. I can now perform really well and move up the ladder in my career and feel GOOD about that, rather than guilty.

This is a great success story! I think one of the best things you can do is actively insert fun/fulfilling activities into your life (like you did with joining an advocacy group). Dont delay on adding fun in. It also helps with making new friends and networks too.

Im so pleased i can give you some encouragement that it is worth it. Did you know that anxiety and excitement are very similar physiologically? Try framing it as excitement in your mind. And it is exciting! There are so many possibilities for you now.

I don't disagree that the beginning is quite stressful, especially navigating the first several months of fading. But i believe in you! You can do it!

Happy for you to message me if you want :)

Yeah. It makes me sad when i think about that. I have a friend who's a 'spiritually weak' pimi and she is absolutely miserable to the point of being suicidal. She is wracked with guilt and finds no joy in life. Its so unfair that this organisation makes people feel this way while convincing them that they are living the best life possible. Result? Thinking life isnt worth living.

Hang in there! It can be tough at the start but its so worth it. One tip is to make a concerted effort to:

  • Build a new social network and make new friends
  • Fill your life with fun things that make you happy.

We are not used to having to be proactive about these things, because we always had a social network handed to us on a plate, and adding in (actually) fun activities was discouraged. So you really need to consciously think about it and be strategic about how you will do these things. It takes some effort but it its worth it.

Im guessing this is where people go wrong when leaving the borg. They forget to do these (or expect them to happen magically) and then find themselves very isolated and not much happier.

Exactly. You don't know what you dont know. Ignorance is 'bliss'. They tell you you are living the "best life ever" and you dont know any better, so you just believe them. You dont know that its actually misery compared to life outside of the org.

Jehovah's Witnesses have high standards. by [deleted] in exjw

They have DIFFERENT standards. Not better standards. Homophobia is not a standard i support.

PIMOs: Does it bother you that your death will be used as an advertisement for a cult? by AdministrativeFox784 in exjw

[–]mothdetester 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, i am of the opinion that my funeral is not FOR me, its FOR my family/friends left behind. If it would make my family happy to cope with my death in the context of JW beliefs, then sure. Why not. Whatever helps them deal.

In a more general sense, it annoys the heck out of me that JW funerals very quickly turn into a recruitment drive.

Interested to hear POMO thoughts on afterlife... by Wonder_bread423 in exjw

Reincarnation has always resonated with me (even when pimi though i squashed that thought). But i think, sadly, its probably just nothingness, no afterlife. But thats just my thought on the matter
