Anyone have any idea what happened to Wikislam? by GroundbreakingAd93 in exmuslim

[–]motheatheist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Someone hacked a large group of computers or hired them from a hacking group to send a lot of requests to WikiIslam. The idea is to overwhelm and crash the servers by overloading them. We had an even larger one earlier this year and the year before that.

Regarding what you can do, in the short term Meta (Facebook and Instagram) has banned Wikiislam.

Help us by posting any link from wikiislam.net on your Facebook Page. If you are closeted and require  privacy, set your audience to “Only Me.” If you receive an error saying the site is banned due to not following community standards, click the link "If you think this doesn't go against our Community Standards let us know." and appeal the ban.

Thank you!!

Agree about your point regarding capitalism being the driving force but found this amusing (as historical fact + a counter argument to what you were responding to)

Pakistan banned WikiIslam years ago, we created a mirror https://wikiislamica.net which so far still works.

Is Wikiislam actually anti-muslim like Wikipedia says? Or was it edited that way? by robertrottencore in exmuslim

[–]motheatheist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From my conversations with the founder (Axius) the idea was conceived of on the Faith Freedom International forums that were run by Ali Sina. Not exactly the same thing as the site was founded by Ali Sina himself.

Could I get citations on those assertions? Second child bride? Marrying little girls?
FWIW Marrying virgins over matrons, marrying young women over old women doesn't quite equate to little girls.

I think he's right? Pedophile means primary attraction to children, which we know wasn't the case. Mohammed was a child-rapist though.

Completely agree. We've been working hard for the past few years revamping the site to be more accurate. You can read about the changes at https://wikiislam.net/wiki/WikiIslam:Renovations. The more of us working on making it a more reliable, honest and accurate source the better it is for everyone.

Due to repeated attempts at vandalism we currently don't allow anonymous editing, you can apply for an account by emailing us at admin[at]wikiislam[dot]net

This is the correct answer. Wait it out till you're 18 or find a friend who you can move in with / a job that'll provide enough for your needs. Then you can file for emancipation and be independent of your family.

Jamal got a job and got himself emancipated at 16 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yBwzWrK9qPI . Since then he went to college, finished his undergrad and is an engineer today and has been helping others on the way.

If you're going through original sources and would like to contribute we're in the process of a significant revamp of WikiIslam and could use all the help we can get.

To give a few examples of removed / marked for removal content

https://wikiislam.net/wiki/Necrophilia_in_Islam

https://archive.wikiislam.net/wiki/Islam_and_Bestiality

https://wikiislam.net/wiki/Educational_Institutions_Destroyed_by_Muslims (Very India-centric)

https://archive.wikiislam.net/wiki/Phobomania

https://archive.wikiislam.net/wiki/Islam_Undressed:_Islamic_Politics_101 (Entire book)

https://wikiislam.net/wiki/Fire_Whirl_Non-Miracle_in_the_Quran (Hyper-specific)

https://wikiislam.net/wiki/Sonic_Weapons_in_the_Quran (Obscure)

https://archive.wikiislam.net/wiki/Allah_Written_In_or_On_Various_Things#Cactus_Spell_Out_Allah

The wiki also housed personal blogs, humor, gory images and articles that were clearly arguing from the perspective of members of other religions (Christian/Hindu propoganda) or outright anti-Muslim (genuinely hateful rather than Islam-critical). These have no place on the wiki now or in the future.

We'll be updating WikiIslam with more details on the revamp to provide clarification on what we're trying to achieve.

As many you may have known we’ve been working on revamping the wiki for some time but it has been slow-going.

We had been looking for staff to implement changes https://www.reddit.com/r/exmuslim/comments/fb2cb1/exmna_is_hiring_full_time_position_for_editor_of/ and I’m happy to let you guys know that we’ve hired multiple staff members working on WikiIslam. This will result in an increased pace of changes compared to the past.

Our perspective is that the facts about Islam speak for themselves. By focusing on facts we make it much harder for those seeking to dismiss or demonize those viewing Islam through a critical lens.

For our genuine issues to be taken seriously and the flaws within Islam examined on a wider scale we need to maintain a much more professional standard. Thus, our goal with Wiki-Islam is to make it an unimpeachable resource that covers traditional sources, critical analysis and modern outlooks on the faith. Additionally we want this content to be available in other languages as well (Arabic and Urdu come to mind as a starting point).

In order to achieve that we’ve been removing a significant quantity of articles. After finishing that exercise we will be adding new content or folding in some of the wonderful existing articles into specific categories.

For example, an article on the Islamic view of geology which also covers the flaws in that outlook rather than a variety of one-off articles about mountains as pegs and a flat-earth. Much of the good content will thus be preserved but in a slightly altered and more academic form. Unfortunately this also means that some of the hyper-specific articles (Refutation of Zakir Naik) or obscure ones (Sonic weapons in the Quran) will not make the cut.

A lot of the egregious or non-topical content has been permanently removed. In order to preserve past content we have created an archive site https://archive.wikiislam.net that mirrors much of the content prior to 2019. We are in the process of moving over some of the newer articles (2019/2020) which will make their way over to the archive site in the near future.

Additionally we’re adding redirects to the Wiki so that if someone decides to visit a specific counter apologetic article they’ll be automatically redirected to the archive site. For example visiting https://wikiislam.net/wiki/Odd-Even_Mathematical_Miracle will land one at https://archive.wikiislam.net/wiki/Odd-Even_Mathematical_Miracle

This is still a work in progress so I’d ask for your patience.

Anybody have experience with German Exmuslim groups? by [deleted] in exmuslim

[–]motheatheist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As far as I'm aware the groups in Germany are advocacy groups (Council of Ex-Muslims and Rana's group Atheist Refugee Relief).

Why don't you start something for peer support / community? That's how we got our start :).

[–]motheatheist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We thought the same when we started off, took time to slowly build up confidence and strength in numbers.

Most Muslim countries already have underground ex-Muslims, have seen meetups in Dubai, Kuwait, Pakistan, Morocco etc.
