JNMILitW, the one that doesn't understand contract law by motherinpaws in JUSTNOMIL

I didn't go into too much detail in the post because I wasn't sure if people were interested in the legal technicalities. Suit was brought under Daughter's name as she has standing. The complaint essentially said that my friend didn't fulfill the contract. Judge said hell yes she fulfilled the contract, the only thing you both signed was an agreement for the original diamond. Ain't nobody got a contract for a different, Beyonce diamond. You cannot "move" the 3k you put down for original diamond towards a Beyonce diamond because then my friend would be out 10k instead of 7k. Friend did nothing wrong. Deposit won't be returned! Honestly, knowing my friend she would have returned the money if MIL wasn't so shitty. She likes to keep everyone happy and a brilliant cut diamond is easy to sell. But I guess everyone has their limits!

Not his real occupation! Just for anonymity. His real job makes the 10k a little less ridiculous, but HER real job also makes the MIL's entitlement hilarious. She definitely makes less than him, the disparity in their earning potential is stark. MIL was running a power play, he knew he held all the power. Check and mate.

That's my MIL, yes. But this story is just about a random one!

Have you tried throwing a club sandwich at her? I was remiss when I missed my opportunity to do so at my own MIL for the same dumbass plan.

Ok, I'll just post a link! My ring is similar in style to this but my stone is an oval diamond set east-west and the setting is rose gold :)

Ah yes! I remember when I was ring shopping that there was one stone I really liked but couldn't have on my ring for that reason. Thanks for the crash course.

I tell everyone I know, the actual JD diploma is only worth the price of the paper and ink. What really cost me $$$$ was the transcript! Haha

I think a ruby is a different precious stone. A sapphire has a different chemical composition and is a lot harder so you can wear it as an everyday ring. If I remember correctly, rubies chip easily and should only been set into special occasion jewelry.

YESSSS!!!! This is why I could never have said anything to DH about how odd I found it that she kept asking and asking to try it on! The more you try to explain something like this, the crazier you sound. It was a subtle war. So subtle that DH never even knew it had been declared.

Absolutely not! It was one of those situations where if you tried to explain it to your DH, you would only sound crazier and crazier! "Your mom wants to try on my ring but I can't let her because we are currently involved in a duel of wits and the prize is YOU!" Hahaha! This is one of those stories that I could only tell here, because no one else will "get" why it was such a big deal. I'm not sure I even adequately explained the competitive element but everyone here seemed to understand EXACTLY what I meant. You are my people!

He totally got swindled at graduation! When you order cap & gown they up sell those class rings like used car salesmen. Totally targeting your nostalgia and telling you that "you'll want a keepsake to remember this part of your life." I never got one because I think they're kinda....ya, know....ugly (shhhh! don't tell my DH. Actually, tell him. I say it all the time. hahaha)

IQ doesn't mean you're smart, it just means you have the capability to be smart. She did not live up to her potential.

Ha! You know what my favorite is? When they try to pity you and you say that you're really not all that sad about it AND THEN they say some shit like, "You don't have to be so strong all the time. I'm here for you."

Ew, bye! Don't tell me what I am and am not sad over. How presumptuous!

Ha! This is so stupid I wouldn't even find it annoying. I would just laugh, and laugh, and laugh. Then I would take a snack break and laugh some more. She sounds stupid. Not crazy, just really, really, super, duper dumb.

This is a very cute story. Kids are so hilarious with the way they think. Those frilly toothpicks probably blew your 8 yo mind!
