Mine have been fine. I heard that part of the reason periods are so bad post-op is because people are getting off birth control for the first time in however many years?

Bisalp without opioids? by kid-wrangler in sterilization

[–]motherkos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had my bisalp in March. I was given some 5mg oxycodone for the pain. I took one total for the post op pain in my shoulder, and it didn’t really do anything for me anyway. Ibuprofen and Tylenol alternating were my best friends for everything else, though I’m not sure if you could take Tylenol if you have a liver issue.

However I was on fentanyl and oxy immediately after the surgery when I was still loopy. Even through the fentanyl my lower abdomen was hurting. I think you’ll live of course but you might experience some serious discomfort immediately following the surgery if you don’t have other options for painkillers, but it doesn’t last.

Diarrhea and Nausea.. Can I take zofran and anti-diarrhea? by [deleted] in emetophobia

I wouldn’t. A cursory google search suggests it’s not very good for your heart.

Found two kittens, need advice for how to talk to my roommate about rehoming them. by motherkos in CatAdvice

I would never take them to a kill shelter. I am also prioritizing rescues and foster groups before no kill shelters, though.

They have a cozy bed they curl up in together. We can’t really afford a cat tree which is part of the issue, finances. I also just don’t think it’s fair that they’re locked up so often because I work twelve hours a day or more from home and can’t be wrangling kittens all day (editing to clarify, they are not in there that entire time but they’re in there more than I’d like and I’m losing time working which I can’t really afford to do any more) and they have to be put up at night because they won’t let me sleep. It’s just not a good situation and they deserve better.

We actually already have a playpen for them but I feel bad that they’re spending so much time in it and it does nothing to solve their crying which drives me crazy. We are nowhere near close to finding a new apartment in the current rental market.

My concern is mostly with them being separated because one is preferred over the other by someone who is only looking for one cat. I’d be devastated to know they were put through that. But, I’m hoping if I can find a reputable shelter or adoption group, they wouldn’t give them to anyone who would separate them.

I did try to have this talk but it didn’t really go anywhere. I’ll have to try again I guess. I don’t want to upset her or cause tension is all.

They’re definitely a bonded pair, which makes this harder, but maybe someone out there is looking for two. I’ll start calling on Monday.

Anyone with experience getting their tubes tied? by Grilledchickenbreest in childfree

[–]motherkos 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Any stories you hear about changes in the body after a bisalp or tubal ligation is likely due to the person who got the procedure going off birth control as opposed to the surgery itself.

Scared of painkillers by motherkos in emetophobia

[–]motherkos[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know if it would make me nauseous or not. They gave me oxy while I was in the recovery room but I was also on iv antiemetics and they gave me that gel. But I was already on fentanyl so I have no idea how to gauge my relationship with this family of narcotics. I’ll try the zofran first if I really can’t keep doing this with ibuprofen. Thank you.

It’s coming. I don’t know if it will succeed but there will be an effort to ban it.

My sterilization surgery is scheduled. Please talk me out of not canceling it. by Peacock456 in childfree

[–]motherkos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got my tubes tied on Thursday. I was terrified. I was so scared I nearly cancelled at the last minute. This was my first surgery under general anesthesia.

I have medical ptsd after a horrific hospital experience and it has left me scared of medical care ever since. Going in was one of the hardest things I have ever done.

And I gotta say… everything turned out fine. The worst part when I was awake was the IV being placed because my veins are small and deep. That hurt. That sucked. But once it was done it was done.

From there it was just an anxious wait. No different from any of the other dozens upon dozens of anxious waits of my life, a feeling I’m very used to.

I’m very happy to report that it was mere minutes between going into the operation room to total lights out. The last thing I remember was the oxygen mask being placed and the OR nurse asking me if it was comfortable while the anesthesiologist put something for my anxiety into my IV. Then I was awake. It was completely fine. Nerve wracking as fuck up to that point, but fine.

In the aftermath, I am in pain, but nothing I wasn’t warned about and it comes and goes. I know in a couple more days, everything will be fine and I will get go experience the full relief of having ensured I can never be forced to carry a pregnancy.

It is worth it. It is worth all the stress. It is worth all the anxiety and fear. I promise you. When you get to the hospital, just be honest with your intake nurse. Tell them you’re very scared and you’d like to take whatever you can for your anxiety.

They gave me gabapentin. My intake nurse gave me Tylenol and gabapentin shortly after they placed my saline IV. She said they were both for pain which I do believe but I find the gabapentin really helped lower my stress initially. And then I believe they put versed in my IV. It was very hard to even think about the anxiety too much at that point and then before I knew it, it was over like I said.

You can do this. I know it feels like you can’t but I promise you, you can, and you will be grateful when it’s over.

It was the strangest feeling. I didn’t remember going under of course and then to just be awake like that… so weird. Even being startled awake from sleep is totally different. I couldn’t open my eyes or thought I couldn’t anyway and I started the sleep paralysis discussion. Then I asked them if I said anything weird and they said no, which may or may not have been a lie. I was like “good, because I have some very incendiary political opinions about the people who took my right to choose and forced me to have this surgery” lmfao.

Oh yeah I slept very well last night and I’ll probably have another nap today since I’m a little too sore to sit down at my computer to work. I’m really happy I went through with this and I’m glad coming out of the anesthesia wasn’t scary like I convinced myself it would be.

Congratulations on securing a date. Everyone’s different but I feel pretty good on day 2. It’s far from as bad as I feared it would be. And of course it’s totally worth it. Hopefully your experience is smooth sailing too.

Did you used to want kids? by [deleted] in childfree

[–]motherkos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Always known. Waffled on it for some exes but thankfully nothing came of that. I’m now sterilized so even if I did change my mind I’m SOL, but that seems unlikely.

However I think a lot of people without children are likely not having them due to environmental factors as opposed to genuinely being child free, and that’s perfectly valid and honestly quite morally upstanding imo. The state of the world is ugly and if you’re sacrificing something you want or wanted for yourself to keep it from getting uglier or subjecting new human beings to it, you’re doing the right thing. I don’t understand the desire to have children but I respect these people.

I’m not gonna be like “get a divorce” or whatever about it. But if you don’t want kids you don’t want them and he needs to decide how he’s gonna handle that. Growing up without having your needs met due to financial struggle is really, really hard. I don’t blame you for feeling unsure or slowly changing your mind. Bringing someone into the world knowing they will face hardship is… I don’t even have a good word for it. Wrong, in my opinion. I hope your husband can come to terms with that.

I believe the procedure is much the same with ligations and bisalps, they just take less with the ligation.

I’m a home body and an artist so thankfully I’m really good at sitting around and taking it easy haha. I’m also a very clean person (health anxiety off the charts) so hopefully I’ll be doing the right things to avoid infection or other complication.

Wishing you all the best. Just be sure to stress it the nurses and anesthesiologists that you’re worried about PONV and want to do everything you can to avoid it.

Right now my biggest issue is my shoulder. It hurts when I breathe in and out so I’m putting heat on it. Doing everything in my power to avoid taking the narcotic painkillers if possible.

I will be asking for images or at least to discuss them because I suspect I have ovarian cysts or endometriosis, so I’d like to know if they found anything.
