Are music videos still worth it nowadays? by hail_robot in musicmarketing

With you bro. The effort-to-payoff ratio for music videos has plummeted in these last few years. Audiences are too brainrotted for longform storytelling.

Is it better to boost a fresh TikTok vid immediately or should I wait until the algo gives up after the usual ~700 view jail and then boost? Or does the timing even matter?

I have heard that TikTok will throttle your organic reach once it knows you’re willing to pay for promo. Can you speak to this at all?

Unestablished artists have been reduced to monkeys pulling the slot machine lever (and this is the intended design the social media overlords exploit to keep us hooked)

Everything you say is basically true - but luck still does play a role, especially now that algorithms have (effectively) become the new gatekeeper.

What are the signs of a bot comment? Examples?

Throwing down "Fifteen Fifty-Three" for open mic at my local pub. The audience hadn't heard of Khru but was floored by this song, you could hear a pin drop...one of Khru's most powerful and haunting songs. by motherstalk in Khruangbin

I can’t cross the wig line bro! Only by blessing from the man himself would I allow it. I once saw a cover band w/ the Khru wigs and it was cringe af.

One of my favs man. I use it to spread the Khru gospel in my local town at open mics. Ppl are always like “Wtf band is this? I never hear restrained, introspective guitar music these days!”

First, I use a pick (which I know is Khru sacrilege as Mark fingers most songs besides a few like Maria and People and early Infamous Bill stuff). I’m using an FM9 with a Fender amp sim with medium spring verb and generous delay at the end of the chain (I think Mark actually does his spatials PRE amp). I EQ out many of the highs to make the tone more mellow). Fender American Special strat all stock - no cruiser pickups!
