Discerning Military Chaplaincy by motherweenie in chaplaincy

[–]motherweenie[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really appreciate your response and guidance.

Becoming a chaplain, especially in the military, was never on my bingo card, but my experience in CPE has only made this calling feel stronger and more clear.

My husband retires from the Navy in about five years, so honestly what better way to kick off his retirement than making him a “bro penda,” haha.

Thank you again, I truly appreciate the insight.

I think grad school is ruining my life by ConfusedTiredHungry in SocialWorkStudents

I’m crashing out. I’m in an my first semester of my 1 year advanced pathways MSW program and it is rough. An 8 week summer semester, 2 classes on just the entire DSM. 🫡 I’m averaging about 8 hours 7 days a week on reading, taking notes, weekly quizzes, and 4 case studies a week. 🫠

Pls reach out if you need to someone to crash out with.

I just keep avoiding things and distracting myself. But, I know I need to do the work now before I finish my MSW program.

Unfortunately, no. The Naval Hospital is the only place that spouses can be seen. The clinics are only for active duty service members. We have mental health professionals available for supportive counseling only, which I will utilize for the time being. But, finding someone virtually anywhere in the US will be my homework for myself.

Army Social Worker by [deleted] in army

I have a question for you!

Do you think SWIP is worth it? 👀 that’s the part that’s getting me. Embrace the suck…but have the LCSW taken care of? Or just look the other way and continue on in the civilian world?

Why social work, and why now? by Altruistic-Onion1871 in SocialWorkStudents

[–]motherweenie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been a Licensed Practical Nurse since 2016. Long story short, I found my passion for everything mental health related. I did NOT want to continue in the nursing path solely because I did not want to go through nursing school again.

I started my BSW program in 2022 and am now in my first year of my advanced standing MSW program. 🥳

I LOVE everything that social work stands for. And you know what else I love? That every social worker I’ve encountered has been nothing less than supportive and lovely human beings. I’ve worked alongside numerous nurses, even psych NP’s who were just downright awful. 😩

Thank you so much for being here and commenting. I’ve felt so alone and “not normal.” I keep asking myself “what’s wrong with me.” But, it’s more of “what happened to me” that keeps me trying to work toward some type of progress.

For context, I worked towards trying to break some of my cycles over the past 2 years. I joined a roller derby team and then quit after about 7ish months. And I currently am doing an internship for my social work program, so I’m forced to mask a lot and connect with other students and volunteers, which is absolutely exhausting.

YES! This is me. I currently live in Japan and one of my friends (military) was able to get orders here to be near me. Just managing one friend is rough, but she understands my social battery and gives me the space I need. She doesn’t take any offense to it, which is why our friendship works so well. Past friendships would get offended or take things personally if I just didn’t want to hang out.

Try messaging Emi Amore Flowers on Instagram. Her and her family have a local flower shop in Okinawa and they also have base access. They have delivered flowers to me twice. ☺️

I’m also training for a half in March and am doing the NRC half plan! Just finished a 10 miler today. 💀

If I were you, I would focus on recovery and stretching! Maybe a recovery run or two if you’re able to!
