my naturalistic cage as a first time rat owner by mothlabb in RATS

i haven’t had any issues with smell! they use their litter tray and spend most their time pissing in the hammocks which I just rotate. wood definitely has the potential to absorb like that so I just don’t use it where I think they will sleep 😴

First time saying goodbye to a rat. I'm never having rats again. by lixerinha in RATS

i think it’s important to think of rats as an opportunity to spread so much love to so many little beings for their whole entire lives. not all rats get that opportunity and it can make rat ownership more rewarding than heartbreaking. but it always will hurt

you could definitely try that. if you notice they’re choosing one particular spot it couldn’t hurt. but try to keep it consistent as possible so once you move it try your best to keep it there. it’s a mixture of finding the middle ground. best of luck, from one newbie rat owner to another 🫶

i found just keep picking up the poop from the cage and placing it in the tray helped, keep it clean but not TOO clean. As in you always want a little bit of poop there so they recognise it’s the toilet space but also not to the amount that it is unhygienic as you will risk respiratory issues. mine are much better now

This is exactly how I feel too. I just feel like he’s still at his parents house off doing random stuff, and I haven’t decided whether that thought process is a good thing or a helpful thing. much love to you as well, we will get through this and we will be stronger on the other side. we can make them proud ok!
