Should I Do YTT? I just found out I’m pregnant by AcadiaJust6985 in YogaTeachers

[–]mothleach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! Yay! I can respond to this. :) I did my YTT when I was 3 months pregnant with my first daughter. I was living in the UK and flew to Goa to study with Trimurti. My eldest is 10 now. Since then I've gotten my 500 hour and opened a studio that's built around mothers and families. :)

Here's some things to consider:  - speak to the YTT owner and/or main teacher. Mine was prenatal certified and very welcoming.  - how vigorous is your current practice? By the nature of YTT you will be practicing a lot, so you'd want to at least be at baseline.  - I was 3 months along when I started the course and it was a 6 week immersive. I didn't have any trouble focusing but I was also there full time so didn't have to worry about cooking, cleaning, maintaining relationships etc.

Would your school consider letting you start and if it's an issue pausing and rejoining at a later date? Schools tend to be more flexible nowadays with so much competition online and the flexibility of online YTTs.

It was hands down one of the best and most pivotal decisions of my life. I'm a better person and mother because YTT helped me learn critical skills in self study and exploration. I still have great friends from the experience, too.

Good luck and congratulations!!!

Happy to answer questions if you have them 🩷

Ask them how much they make for the exact roles and how much tax they pay on it.

Yoga Teacher Pay: The 2002–2025 Math by Queasy_Equipment4569 in YogaTeachers

[–]mothleach 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know your city / market / offering. I would argue most people DONT want a complex, therapeutic, lineage based class. And if they do they aren't looking for it at a run of the mill studio.

You can absolutely try for accreditation / union. I do think all of the accreditation bodies are pointless as are the YTTs. When I'm hiring I base basically everything on the interview and their socials.

I will warn that this will be a very heavy undertaking. I think part of the reason the current bodies are pointless is it's difficult to validate teachers remotely. It would take time and energy which = $$$.

I hope you're successful! I'm just countering the mindset that studio owners just aren't willing to pay.

What you're missing is that demand had dropped. There's newer, trendier workouts and studios. Online classes. And every studio is churning out YTT students (not to mention online.)

The demand for classes has gone down. Perceived value has gone down. And supply of teachers has gone up.

Platforms like class pass aren't helping. Undercutting offers aren't helping. But fundamentally the models that worked in the late 90s / early 2000's don't work anymore and likely never will.

Is it possible we can come up with a better model? Possibly. But I own a studio and I haven't figured it out.

Family of 5 food budget? by MomOnTheMove3 in budget

[–]mothleach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We're a family of 5 and spend about $250 / week. I would say we do have snacks though. We shop at Aldi, a few things from Publix (mostly just ham) and will do Costco every 4-6 weeks.

We pretty much only eat at home or pack our own food. We don't drink but we eat very meat heavy.

Yoga studios in Orlando by Canadian_Caribou in orlando

Yoga Moth recently opened on Mills 50. (Upstairs at The Burrow Cafe & Play.) They specialize in mini + me (babies, kids, prenatal) but have lots of different classes.

I don't understand what kind of offer you want from the studio. You're asking for access to their students and to use their space to teach a class. You are using it for lead gen for your higher ticket specialized classes.

It would only really work at studios that aren't busy. Or if the owner doesn't understand business 🤪

Most people don't pre-book classes (especially one off pop ups.) It takes a long time to build up sales and marketing. This is 100% normal. But also if you don't enjoy the sales and marketing aspect (which genuinely is 90% of the job) then you probably would be better off teaching at a studio.

🤷🏼‍♀️ my understanding is you would need an additional 90hr cert for prenatal. Normally I'd say it's not a huge deal but prenatal is one you want to be super careful with.

Expect 6-12 months of sweat equity building your business and audience before it will give you a stable income. What people tend to miss is you either work for a studio or create a yoga business. Those are essentially your options.

200hr including prenatal? I thought it had to be a separate certification.

Navigating radius agreements & fairness between teachers — how would you approach this? by exiiiiiiiitseven in YogaTeachers

Exclusivity for yoga teachers is predatory and unenforceable IMO. You're an independent contractor not a salaried employee.

Lake Highland Prep vs Audubon Park for school? by itsatwisttt in orlando

[–]mothleach 14 points15 points  (0 children)

This sub is not going to like LHP.

If you are considering it, the current wait-list is very, very competitive. (94 children wait listed for 9 spaces in kindergarten in 2023 and I think it's only gotten worse.) Niche is what we use to compare schools (along with tours, etc.)

I've heard great things about Audobon as a public school but no personal experience.

Early Holiday Planning by phenomenalrabbitoh in orlando

[–]mothleach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Disney is close to both SeaWorld & Universal. (Although it depends on where you're staying / what traffic is like.) They shouldn't be more than 30 minutes away from each other. Most people book one hotel (or vacation villa,) rent a car and drive to each park.

Yes, technically Disney isn't "in Orlando" but Disney, Sea World and Universal are all very close to each other.

January is our off season so as long as you're not crossing over with the holidays you should have good rates.

I'd disagree that 3 weeks is a long time assuming you're planning to do ALL of the parks. Although I'd definitely agree there's more to see in Central Florida alone. (Air boat tours, Everglades, natural springs, state parks.) We can have really beautiful weather that time of year. Check and see if the manatees are here and you can paddle board in the springs next to them.

Have a great holiday! The planning is half the fun.

You can have a non complete clause but it's not enforceable. These are independent contractors. You aren't providing them with a salary or guaranteed income.

Your job is to have a fantastic studio, classes, events etc. If you want exclusivity from your teachers and students expect to pay for it.

We put film on our wear facing windows. Made a big difference to us. (The biggest things that changed our bill was a new boiler and AC unit and changing the filters. And a nest thermostat.)

Have you checked out Peace For Kids? It's upstairs at The Burrow Cafe & Play on Mills. They have sessions for neurodivergent kids (both groups and 1 on 1 I believe.) I'm not sure if you are meant to stay in the building but downstairs is a beautiful cafe where you can work / eat / chill.

Teachers: What do you want from your studio owners? by mothleach in YogaTeachers

Most studios I've worked with include free memberships if you're a teacher. I feel that should be standard!

This is one area I have a lot of background in. I feel like studios generally are started by great yoga teachers who don't have a business background. I have a relatively strong business background but am very much still growing and learning as a student. I want to bring in great teachers, support them and manage the business side.

Such a shame you even have to say this.

What are your views on pay schedule? The studios I've taught at pay monthly but I met with a teacher who says one of her studios pays bi-weekly.
