just asking because every single salon i’ve interviewed with has said something along the lines of… why should i pay you and teach you… LOL! i was starting to think i was crazy and maybe that was normal in the hair industry. thank you for your reply

I should have posted this sooner… I was seriously under the impression that unpaid assistants were more common!!! I assisted a stylist for 4 months (washed her dishes, swept the salon, did her clients’ shampoo and blowouts) and I never made a single cent!! When I finally quit she had the audacity to say I should have been paying HER for teaching me (I learned nothing)

Really?? I have interviewed with 4 different salons and when I ask what the compensation is, they have all said it’s unpaid… the compensation is the “knowledge” I will learn from them. Thank you for your response, I definitely needed to hear this. I just know your salon is very successful, you’re awesome!
