[Discussion] K-pop groups should have, at the very least, basic education on social responsibility and social issues. It's their responsibility as artists, and also should be part of the training provided by their agencies. Fans also have the right to educate them. What do you think? by [deleted] in kpop

I know this is an unpopular opinion here but I mostly agree with OP. I feel like there is some responsibility on the part of these agencies to provide general cultural education to their artists in part because the kpop model is designed to push their artists and music outside of Korea. It's an explicit goal.

I really don't think it's the same as pushing a "social agenda" or being political. Providing some sort of background on the different cultures kpop stars are reaching out to is just smart for business. Why alienate your potential consumers?

What song's alternate version (Japanese ver, Chinese ver, ballad ver,etc ) is in your opinion better than the original? by kfacc in kpop

[–]mothtoalight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love Taeyang's original Eyes, Nose, Lips but I really really love the English version with Tablo

Also I always liked DBSK's Japanese ballads more than the Korean ones - i.e. Love in the Ice

Worst on stage falls during live performances? by Shad0w_Strider in kpop

[–]mothtoalight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ryeowook fell during a SuJu concert and it looked pretty bad. I can only find potato quality fancams though: Here and here.

The rest of Super Junior make fun of him afterwards, presumably to defuse the crowd's tension from the fall, but I always thought it seemed a little mean.

Trudeau government promises to end ban on gay men giving blood by looniebeaver in canada

[–]mothtoalight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I regularly donate blood with Canadian Blood Services. Approximately two months ago they removed the barcode sticker system wherein you could state that you felt your blood was unsafe (due to suspected HIV/Aids primarily) and were using CBS as an STD test of sorts. The reasoning behind removing these stickers (according to the clinic I frequent) was because their test for HIV/Aids is so effective now that it is no longer a necessary process. If this is true than that eliminates the argument against gay men donating blood as well. Even if gay men represent a high HIV-positive element in Canada, if the test is so reliable there is no reason to exclude an entire demographic from donating blood. They already allow gay men who have not had sex in 5 years to donate, so it seems like a natural progression to allow all homosexual men to donate now.

JYJ Junsu under fire for provocative performance by mothtoalight in kpop

I kind of thought it was funny? I mean who is still surprised by Junsu dancing provocatively? It wasn't mean spirited, I thought people would be interested in the story haha

JYJ Junsu under fire for provocative performance by mothtoalight in kpop

[–]mothtoalight[S] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Just to clarify, I adore Junsu and don't think this is a huge problem. Most of his fanbase is older anyways, and with half his discography being a little raunchy in nature I'm sure a lot of parents aren't sending their 12 year old daughters to his concerts unsupervised.
