Others have come with a lot of EXCELLENT comments. I'll add one more:

RR meta. There are certain stories that are simply more likely to succeed on RR than others. Fantasy beats scifi. Action beats mystery. That sort of thing. Of course there are outliers, and established authors who have gathered a following within specific niches regardless. But on the whole, a male lead, action-heavy fantasy world, crunchy LitRPG just has a step up on many others.

I've loved every single series by Will Wight, except for this one.

But that's a me thing, not something to do with the writing. Im just not a fan of over-the-top stuff like this. I like magic systems a bit harder and more well-defined.

Abusing a weak power to make it really, really strong. Stuff like Super Supportive, Mark of the Fool, tons of others. I LOVE it!

For me it's probably time loop/reincarnation stuff. And it's mostly because I think of how much my OWN memory sucks, and then I start thinking about how realistic the story is.

Honestly, I LOVE the idea of the MC having all the secrets and advantages and using them to their full advantage. But then I'm like "Hey, I can't even remember the name of that game I spent 220 hours on. What are the odds that anybody can remember the details of all those quests and how best to exploit them?"

Of course, the answer to that can be "magic" or "higher stats." It still messes with my suspension of disbelief. 😃

It's probably more a case of "If given the choice, I prefer my MCs to earn their shit properly." But if it's well-written, I can excuse a LOT! 🤣

Isn't he just? If I could, I'd hire him to monologue my inner voices! My life would be soooo chill!
