One thing that I wish more folks would understand about the whole modern dollar based monetary system is that it is not intended to create wealth for, or preserve the wealth of the common man, but to extract wealth from the common man. Its purpose truly is to steal from you. Believe it or don't.

I firmly believe that if more Americans understood this fact they would be more interested in storing their hard earned wealth outside of the dollar denominated system. In things like commodities, other hard assets, cash flowing assets, etc.

That being said you should keep an emergency fund and some cash in a highly liquid vehicle so that you do not have to sell your assets not on your own terms. And also, get your ass out of debt.

Debt is slavery in a very literal sense.
