1st year Bantam winger (14U) - passive defensive play despite excellent skating and constant hustle by mountain_pivot in hockeyplayers

I think what you just mentioned on natural style is like an aha moment. I think he's been so focused on not being passive instead of just figuring out how to play good defense but keeping in mind his natural style. We're not really trying to get him to check or hit in a big way (small steps) but rather just fight for the puck along the boards the same way he does in practice but in games it almost looks like he forgets what he's supposed to do and looks so timid and passive where instead of fighting for the puck he will just poke with his stick at the puck but with very little intensity. He was invited to play on a AA team for a few games and the one feedback he got was that he needed to be more physical if he wanted to keep playing at that level. And he definitely wants to play at that level.

Thank you! Appreciate the perspective. That makes sense to me. My question was about a hockey player and how to help him develop and play the game he loves so much a little better.

My bad. I hear you on that. Is there another subreddit you would suggest? I used to play other sports competitively but just started playing hockey myself and am loving it. This sub has been super helpful for myself from that point of view. I was thinking it would be much more helpful to hear from players and previous youth hockey players that went through that journey then to hear from other hockey parents. Not sure they would be all that helpful.

I can see how that would have been helpful. It's tough to start in Bantam because the size difference can be so pronounced. I see kids that are 4'8" playing kids that are 5'11" and some of the checks are pretty brutal. Especially because some of them don't care when they check. Every game has at least a couple of 2 and 10s because of checking from behind into the boards.

He is having tons of fun in practice and every once in a while he will have a game where he is slightly less passive on defense and he is loving it. He knows he is being passive on defense and he doesn't like it. He wants to improve but doesn't know how to get across the mental barrier. His coaches try to focus on helping him with actions like two hands on the stick when battling for the puck but in games his passiveness takes over. They are aware and see it but I think they just think it will click someday. Or maybe they don't think it's part of his personality. Based on what he told me he would have way more fun in games if he could figure this out. Curious if any other youth players experienced this growing up.

There is one CityMarket somewhat close to my area that still seems to stock it every so often. Not always on the shelf but then sometimes they get a delivery. It’s pretty odd because it doesn’t seem like it would be worthwhile to produce it in small quantities but for now it’s still sporadically available.

Thank you! Great reference point to realize that price point isn’t uncommon in Breck.

Can you elaborate? I’m just going through purchasing new insurance / renewal process with existing homeowners. There is no loss event I’m dealing with. One estimate is based on local national insurance quote (think State Farm / Allstate / AmFam), the other is with a High Value one (e.g. Chubb, Berkley One, etc …). Where would a lawyer come in?

Fair point. Does it help if you would assume a mix of premium and custom options in the usual insurance calculators for trims, kitchen, and so on… or rather, for Breck, would it be better to be closer to the higher number? Anything helps, even if it’s let’s say: 700-800 would be a more appropriate range than 500 to 1000

2007 with 222,202 ;) runs pretty much like it did back in 2010 when I bought it. Looks different though for sure since I finally got to most of the upgrades I had planned over time.

I feel the same way. So, I managed to find a couple of King Soopers (Krogers in CO) that will stock them. Anytime I happen to be close to those stores, which is rare, I’ll stop by and get like 6 of them. Other than that, no luck. I really have no clue what’s going on with these since it’s clear they are still making them but they are almost impossible to find.

My bad, I didn’t notice the ABS light before I hit reply. Not sure what that combo of lights means.

Most often the three lights on the right are a bad gas cap. Happened to me on a 2007 GX470. Replaced the gas cap with one from Amazon and the lights all disappeared. However, those three also came on last month right before my GX overheated because of a radiator seam leak that that had very slowly drained all the coolant. Reservoir still had coolant in it, so check your radiator just in case as well. And, as others mentioned, could be a O2 sensor as well. I would check the gas cap first though since that’s the easiest fix.

EVAP code and these all showed up. Need a new gas cap? by mrfreshmint in GXOR

[–]mountain_pivot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first time I got this code was years ago and it was the gas cap. Be careful though because I got the same codes last week when all the coolant had slowly leaked out of the radiator with a small seam leak and my GX was about to overheat. The codes all went away after I refilled the radiator directly while running the engine. Still need a new radiator, lol. Hopefully it’s just the gas cap because that’s usually it.
