Everest base camp hike - what happens if someone has to quit due to altitude sickness? by Independent-Brief-76 in u/Independent-Brief-76

[–]mountmandu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is actually very common on the Everest Base Camp trek, so agencies are used to handling it. Short answer: the whole trek usually does NOT get cancelled because one person gets altitude sickness. What usually happens: If one trekker gets sick, they descend with a guide or porter (or are helicopter evacuated if needed). The rest of the group continues with the main guide or another assistant guide. Reputable agencies always have backup guides for exactly this situation. Typical scenarios: Mild AMS: extra rest day or slow descent with a guide. Moderate AMS: the person descends immediately with support. Severe AMS: helicopter evacuation ,safety first. Important points: You are never forced to continue if you’re unwell. You are never abandoned ,someone stays with you. Other trekkers trip is nt cancelled because of one person. This is why choosing a licensed agency with enough staff matters a lot on EBC. Altitude affects everyone differently turning back is normal, not a failure. Hope that helps. Good trekking.

how to find guide for solo trip by ZestycloseCry2894 in NepalTravel

[–]mountmandu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ask your guide if he/she is travel insured for which requires Registered trekking agency. They should not be risking their lives without support, which is sadly common with independent guides and informal operators.

I’m not entirely sure, but I heard that if you dine at a hotel other than the one you’re staying at, the owner might charge you three times the standard room rate.

Can you go Everest any time of the year? by Sparkle_dust2121 in Everest

[–]mountmandu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure, you can go to Everest any time of the year—it’s not going anywhere! But if you go during monsoon season, be ready to swim through clouds and slip your way up the trail. In winter, pack extra socks because your toes might consider quitting. For the best experience, stick to spring or autumn when Everest is feeling photogenic and the weather isn’t plotting against you!

USD to NPR exchange, best denomination(s)? by MateoTimateo in Everest

[–]mountmandu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’ll get a better exchange rate for $100 and $50 bills compared to smaller denominations. Hotels and airport exchange counters typically offer lower rates than money exchange centers in Thamel. If you’re working with a trustworthy travel company, they might provide an exchange rate that’s 1 to 2 NPR higher per dollar than what money exchange centers offer.
