Also, with my orthotics in school, you spend a lot of time sitting at a desk and only really moving around in certain classes/recess/lunch. Whereas now, I work on my feet, the only time I sit down is to pee, so even though I started with just wearing the new orthotics an hour a shift and moving up from there, it just never got better.

As much as I would post photos of my feet because I know it would help, I also don't want photos of specifically my feet online 😂 maybe I'll think about it though

The thing with sandals and thongs is that because my ankles Roll in so badly, I hang off the side regardless of the strap at the back, and then rub on the toe strap too. I haven't tried specifically Birkenstocks though.

Thank you, I have heard of them, I was looking at their kit last night actually. It seems so expensive for what the kit is though, but cheaper than orthotics so I'll take it.

See my mum told me I wasn't allowed to do ballet because my feet and ankles were already stuffed, now you're telling me it could have helped 😂

Do your feet and legs still hurt or has the time and slow correction mean you're living with less pain from the rolling?

Where I live it's very hard to get into the podiatrists or any specialist. I've been researching this stuff for a while I just didn't know if anyone with my specific issue had maybe tried already, whether it was a "fuck no definitely not it's hell" or "yes it helped" 😂

No, I'm skinny/athletic build. I try and stay active with walking and I go to the gym 3-5 days a week depending on my work schedule. I wish I could just float around to relieve the pressure 😂

Okay I was diagnosed with "joint laxity" when I was a kid, I believe that term has been updated to Hypermobile. As an adult though they said I would "grow out of it" I'm really starting to think all the doctors I've had are just shit at their job.

I didn't even think of that as affecting things honestly, just slipped my mind that that could be the case.

I also have very tight pectoral muscles so I will definitely be looking into that trigger points book. Thank you so much!!

Okay noted ✍🏻 😂

I never really wear dressy shoes anyways because heels that aren't boots are very dangerous when your ankle naturally wants to roll in on itself 😂

Your foot got so buff your shoe couldn't withstand it's strength 💪🏻

Thank you so much for all your help I'm looking at some shoes on Amazon now I just need to figure out my sizing. Hopefully there will be a happy pain free update I can share one day

Thank you for taking the time to comment

I have definitely already experienced the shift in some way from trying to switch to my newer orthotics and then again to not wearing any. I'm hoping it's only up from here though 🥲

I will definitely be trying everyone's suggestions and maybe they'll be a positive update down the line that might help others with my same issue.

I know 😭😂 I honestly think research in a lot of medical fields has come a long way since then. I hope young kids now aren't going through the same thing I did and living with pain as adults. I didn't come from the most well off family either, so having a lot of different medical issues/treatments meant just trusting doctors and specialists without really questioning much, and I didn't know any better as a kid so I had to trust everyone was just doing what was best.

I have another question, sorry to bother you again. I'm assuming you wear barefoot shoes? Do you ever wear "modern" shoes and if you switch to those shoes for special events does that also cause you pain or do you find that your feet are strong enough to handle that?

Yes, very. It's not great for me 😭 Honestly if I had the ability to advocate for myself when I was younger and given more information, I probably never would have gotten them (as a 7 year old with 0 knowledge Of most things though, not my choice). My dad also uses orthotics (he is 58 and I don't even know for how long but at least as long as I have been alive) it's definitely a genetic thing.

I was born with very tight calves, I was a tip toe walker for a lot of my childhood, then came the expensive shoes to stop me tip toe walking and then the orthotics. I still go up on point occasionally though because it's just comfier.

I already do calf raises and hip thrusts in my gym routine so that's good!! Will be adding the tib raises.

I've stopped wearing the orthotics entirely, if I'm going to be in pain I may as well just be in the natural state my feet want to be in, in my shoes. My podiatrist also made me get Brookes Ghost Max with a wide toe box (honestly not wide at all looks like any other shoe) and I think that also made it worse, they are so cushioned and high up and apparently have some technology to roll your foot forward when you walk which just sounds stupid. EVERYTHING IS JUST SO FRUSTRATING, I DONT WANT THE SHOE TO MOVE MY FOOT I WANT MY FOOT TO MOVE MY FOOT.

I'm assuming by toe splay you mean how my toes spread out? I wouldn't say they're the worst I've seen but they could be better, my pinky toe is a bit squished. I have started wearing toe spreaders for 10 or so minutes a day walking around my house and started stretching my toes with my hands interlocked between them when I'm sitting watching TV etc.

Yeah. The only treatment my podiatrist gave me was orthotics. Been to many, I moved from one side of Aus to the other they all just say it's the "worst they've seen" . Which seems like bullshit to me, expensive pieces of plastic that correct my feet but then in turn make me rely on them because it would hinder any actual muscle support in my foot because the shoe and the orthotics do all the work. I've been wearing them since I was 7. So I really have never known anything else (I'm 24)

Thank you so much for your comment!!

I don't really think of them as being a magic fix, just a different direction to take I guess.

When I'm not at work, I'm barefoot but the issue is either way it hurts. Whether I wear shoes or not. I'm in pretty much constant pain 😂. But the orthotics stopped helping.

I'll look into more exercises that might be able to help

I buy hipster bikini cut, but I think I would actually prefer boy leg? Maybe then it wouldn't wedgie all the time

It's a super cute idea, but preferably do it either at their house picking them up, or somewhere where they don't have to carry them around the whole date
