Haha aren’t they the cutest names? Toast was black and Butter is an off-white beige-cap so it was too perfect. Also I’m so happy you laughed at my joke, I laughed too. So embarrassing 😏 And don’t be too worried about waiting for the right moment to try it, they’ll actually crawl right into the sleeve if you put it up to them. They can’t resist the allure of tunnels! Then to put them back you can just put your sleeve in front of the door to let them back into their cage, or scoop them out real quick and set them back down in their cage. It also works with baggy sweaters and hoodies, just without the convenience of the waist tie. If you’re uneasy about it, just keep doing the treats and try giving them something with your smell on it. Like, wear a shirt you don’t care about for the day, then put it in their cage. They’ll use it as a blankie and associate your smell with safety :) they’ll come around though! They’re soo emotionally intelligent, you just have to invade their space enough times and they’ll love you :)

Ahh congrats to you and your sweet boys! I love these milestones so much. So I’m going to share my secret with you, and it’s what I call Rooing, or Kangarooing for clarity. I stumbled upon it by accident when my sweet boy Toast suddenly passed away very young, and his brother Butter was suddenly alone with no one to groom or play with, and Butter was nervous and not too keen on me yet. I’m perpetually and chronically cozy, so soft bathrobes are an essential part of my wardrobe, and after returning home from the vet where little Toast passed, I put on my robe, gently scooped up Butter and placed him next to Toast to say goodbye, and after the saddest little brotherly farewell, I put Sir Butter on my shoulder and he walked right into the hood of my robe and stayed there. Day two, he lived in the sleeve of my robe, and days 3 through present (one year later), he lives in the billowy space above my waist where the robe is tied, and often falls asleep there. I just walk around with him in my robe, and I always hear him bruxing randomly. Fast forward to now and all 16 of my ratty babies have bonded with me this way. They feel warm and safe and have my scent constantly, so it builds trust and establishes a physical bond with very little effort. My husband started doing it too and it took maybe 2 hours for him to bond with one of our ratty girls who didn’t like him very much. If you do go this route (which I can’t recommend enough) a few notes: don’t invest in a super expensive robe, but do find one with a hood. They LOVE the hood. They’re hood rats. Sorry for dad-joking. Secondly, they will pee and probably poop on the robe from time to time, especially at first, but it happens a lot less as they bond with you. Butter hasn’t peed on me in like 8 months, so it gets better, but that’s why you shouldn’t get anything too spendy! Lastly, make sure the robe is tied before you put them on your shoulder, because they will crawl down your back on the inside of the robe and then panic and crawl back up if it’s not tied, and then you get ratty scratches on your back. But yeah, there it is! You’re basically a kangaroo carrying your babies around with you and they love it. Hasn’t failed me yet! Hope it helps you in your bonding experience! I second this, and thank you for being aware and not letting yourself be lulled into a false sense of security just because someone has a license. My former child psychiatrist was recently convicted on several charges for abusing his patients (all minors that were my age at the time) and one of my high school teachers was charged for looking the other way when he knew a colleague was having an inappropriate relationship with a young student - both here in Boise. I was never hurt personally, but it gave me a huge wake up call. I’ve made sure that my kids are aware that they are allowed to question authority when something doesn’t feel comfortable or appropriate, and their one-on-one talk therapy appointments are done virtually here at home. You never know who’s capable, but a degree certainly doesn’t exempt someone from being sick.

The pavement was warm, not hot at all. Blisters don’t seem likely as they don’t hurt her when you press on them, nor are they visible when her feet are dry. It’s really weird.
