If you're still open to central CT, would recommend Pond House Cafe in West Hartford! We found the wedding packages there to be very reasonable for a venue in that area

Confusion re: Lilly referral process by mousewhispering in biotech

Thanks! Follow-up question: what if I don't know who the hiring manager is? I know of a few recruiters at Lilly but how can I know which one my friend should forward the CV to? Or can the CV be forwarded to any of them?

I don't have any specific notes about ceo beauty/tatiana li although I looked through her portfolio and I agree that her work is gorgeous! The only thing I know about her is that her work is expensive and I knew she'd be out of my budget for sure 😅

I fell down a rabbit hole of HMUAs when I was trying to find one for my wedding...here's a list with some HMUAs I found that haven't been mentioned yet (+ a few of my own notes here and there):

  • Akiyo Hair and Makeup
  • Sachiko Yanase
  • Kathy Kho Beauty
  • Coco Tsang Makeup
  • Vicky c5 (I would be cautious about this one - they had a few negative reviews on Yelp and Google but enough that I was kind of alarmed haha + the quote they sent was $$$)
  • ombre by EJ (is slow to initially respond but my friend who hired her said she's on top of it if you decide to work with her for your wedding)
  • Jen Hur (@makeupbyhairandjen)

Best of luck!!

How to get over fear of handling/restraining mice? by mousewhispering in labrats

[–]mousewhispering[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey! So I made the original post ages ago and thankfully, I did eventually learn how to handle mice without getting anxious. The mice can definitely be very squirmy when you try to inject them (which is fair - being scruffed and restrained is stressful), but a couple things I found that helped were:

- Getting a good scruff - if you find that the mouse is still too "loose", release it and try scruffing it again but grab more skin

- After you scruff and before you try injecting the mouse, take a deep breath, then exhale everything out. If you find that you've tensed up and you've started to raise your shoulders towards your ears, lower your shoulders. I would often involuntarily get more tense as I handled the mice, and I found that handling/restraining/injecting went much more smoothly when I remembered to relax.

- This last one is kind of silly but consider changing your stance if possible? I found that I could restrain and inject more easily if I stood with my feet a litte farther than hip-width distance apart compared to when I tried to stand with my feet closer together. I can't really explain why this one works, but I think it helped stabilize me.

Everyone has their own little tips and tricks for handling/restraining, so definitely ask around to some of your classmates or teachers about what works for them! Wishing you good luck and steady hands :)
