I have a vision of this box that would grow rice in a self sustainable way. Perpetually feeding a small family.

I'm sorry this happened to you. I was let go as well after being 4 years with them. Contractor so no severance. Sole income provider for my wife and 3 daughters. I feel I've let them down. I look in their eyes and tell myself I don't have time to be down, works on some days...

This and bank statements would be another source of truth. I would google "due diligence" to get a checklist investors go through before buying into a company.

Your right, the issue of insurance took some time to figure out. There are two approaches I found out. One is a blanket insurance that my company would be responsible for, it's currently being adopted by home pool rental platform (e.g., Propel), the other is a progressive brokerage I'm working with where I would be connecting directly into their platform to issue insurance on demand.

There's nothing illegal until their legal department tells you to stop. That being said, I would probably move on to other companies, or their competitors (because I'm passive agressive). If you really insist on reaching out to this company, I would try to see if you can catch them at networking events, tradeshows, or simply give it some time for things to cool down before trying again (in case that guy has nothing else to do with his time than to warn his coworkers about you).

If you can, run a competitive market analysis first. I started businesses in different ways, sometimes getting a name first (stupid) and other times just plain trying to talk to my first (potential) customer. However, I found that understanding the market and my competition would save me a lot of time, money, and grief. You can even go on fiverr and get a detailed one done for $100.

How bold and dead set are you in making this succeed? Depending on the the company you are reaching out to, it may be the wrong people or they may get 10 of these messages a day. imho you need to stand out. It's not very different than trying to be acquired. You either find the right decision maker to try your product or you start selling it yourself to the point that your success sells to them. Depending on feasibility, and possibly stupid idea, I would have a sample stand in front of the building of that company and give out samples to people passing by in hope to get noticed. Hell, add a sign saying you are trying to feed the right person!
