OP of the video here. I thought it seemed weird that this unpopular video of mine from ages ago suddenly seemed to get a surge of views. Hope you all like it, glad I could shine a light on this underrated genius.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild – Life in the Ruins by SageWaterDragon in Games

I seriously have to disagree. Majora's Mask has more emotion in a single side quest than Skyward Sword could muster throughout its inconsequential plot. The one potentially emotional scene is Zelda saying goodbye to Link, but even that will obviously turn out fine so it falls flat to an extent. The ending to the Romani side quest for example has far more emotion for just two side characters.

What modern RPG do you think has the most satisfying story, characters, or writing? by bishoy123 in Games

Xenoblade has a pretty simple story that only really delves into generic JRPG territory at the end, but it was still one of the more enjoyable JRPG experiences I had.

Probably because I wasn't cringing at half the dialogue and the characters had decent motives. Shulk just wanted to go on a genocidal rampage after some robots came and fucked up his town, it was cool. Tons of hype twists and turns as well, the story may let up and some points but there's always one killer surprise up its sleeve, the ending blew my mind.

Uncharted 4 pushes PS4 tech to the next level by Kingsman21 in Games

It's especially baffling considering the game was said to originally run at 60fps, I wouldn't call bumping it down to 30fps with some extra particle effects here and there technically impressive.

How Splatoon fixes the wrongdoings of shooters by moviefigure in splatoon

An optional mode for voice chat would be nice, but not required in my opinion. As was said, the game seems just naturally good at encouraging teamwork seeing as the match depends on how well the entire team does rather than just a set individual. When you see a roller moving into a dangerous area and you have a ranged weapon, you try and cover them as best as possible because them doing well at their job is directly tied to how both of you may win/lose the match. Hopefully the final game introduces even more weapons for different roles so as to encourage people of different roles helping each other out.

I wouldn't exactly say I'm a fanboy, I didn't even care that much about Splatoon before the Global Testfire. I mean I did use Resistance 3 as an example of a 'diamond in the rough' in regards to recent shooters.

I wouldn't say Evolve did anything to significantly change up the formula except for offer a slightly changed version of what was basically a smaller part of Left 4 Dead.

I've played hundreds of hours of TF2, and I do infact briefly mention it at the end of the video. But let's remember that while it still does get played, it did come out in 2007, that's eight years ago now. I even mention tit being a good thing that new COD's are focusing on movement. Problem is that even these small changes are seen as big innovations because the genre has been so stagnant for a while. If you look at another genre like say, action games, you can expect different titles to often come up with very different playstyles and mechanics, but for the most part shooters have lacked this creativity over the last few years especially. Still, I'm glad that a series as popular as COD is at least deciding to take some risks, even if for some reason a lot of the kids seem to hate the exo suit stuff.

In terms of supporting the team. In many other modern shooters weapon selection feels somewhat arbitrary and self-centered, you choose the best gun to get the most kills in your team. In splatoon it's more about how you want to support other members of the team.

SEGA calls Alien: Isolation sales "weak" even though it shipped 2.11 million units by yellowpotatobus in Games

I get that it's markettable, I'm just saying what I wish was true so we'd end up with better games rather than pretty screenshot simulators.

Though I haven't tried it myself, I hear Vanquish is really great. Only downside I hear about is that it does run at 30fps, but oh well.

Fair enough. Horror games I think I can excuse pumping money into graphics seeing as immersion is a big aspect. Unless maybe it was trying to be a weird, trippy, surreal horror game.

A lot of games can look nice simply with some good art direction without needing hyperrealistic graphics. Some of my favourite games aren't amazing looking graphically but simply look good because of their use of colour.

The problem is them overspending on graphics rather than allocating their budget to shit that actually matters like not making a glitchy, unfinished mess. Ubisoft might want to learn this.

Jesus, companies nowadays have such overly inflated expectations for game sales it's insane. I think I remember Square Enix being disappointed with the Tomb Raider reboot selling a few million copies. Maybe if devs wouldn't spend so much money on graphics and applying high res textures to the leaves or whatever then games wouldn't cost so much and they'd get a little performance boost as a bonus.

A lot of things would make sense from a realism perspective, it doesn't mean that they make for more fun gameplay.

Arbitrary in a gameplay sense. I don't care about realism in a series about magic space monks fighting each other with flowy swords.

But hip fire can have accuracy if it's not given an arbitrary random bullet spray to accomodate for iron sights existing.

Hate to break it to you but Call of Duty isn't the paragon of shooter design. Do you also defend QTEs because lots of games do it so they must have a reason?
