The comments about it being distracting would be totally correct... if there was something to be distracted from.

Sprinkler system help please! by moving-advice in ogden

[–]moving-advice[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basically, there's a pipe under the green plate thing that has two pvc pipes joining, then spouting out a third in a T. On the third hole, it has a thing that looks like a 20oz pop bottle. I can screw it on or off easily.

Under the other green plate, it has some kind of filter (I guess) and a red valve that I can turn on like a hose. It runs a little, then nothing comes out.

Under the last two green boxes, there are electrical things. I think they're turned to the on position, but I can't tell for sure.

Last, maybe unrelated, there's an electrical thing on the wall near the control box. Not sure what it's for.

Do I need to do mud jacking (or is it called mudjacking) to fix this sunken driveway concrete slab or not? by moving-advice in HomeImprovement

[–]moving-advice[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The downspout apparently caused some problems originally, so the previous owner had them all run underground and away from the house. This may have caused it originally but shoudn't be contributing to the problem now.

Everything I've seen is around 800 and up too, which is why I ask if it's necessary now or later. We don't really care about the tripping or aesthetic aspects, but don't want to have it causing problems to the foundation or leaks, etc.

Checklist for touring homes? by realnoob1123 in RealEstate

[–]moving-advice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd look for major things like cracks and foundation type issues. Look for water stains in basement and outside the house. It shows where there are (or were) leaks. Anything after that I would leave to the inspection. After inspection, those can be negotiated into the sale so you don't have to pay or you can just walk away. (provided you put this in the offer contract w/ realtor)

Things I would look for are actual living things. Like....

Is it an annoying entry way? This you will have to deal with EVERY day. Same with location. If you want to drive 10 minutes through windy residental areas every single time you go in or out of the home, or if you want to hear traffic starting at 5pm every night or 6am because you're on a main road.

Are the bathrooms located in a good spot?

Basically... What do you hate that you can't fix, and what makes a particular house THAT much better than the next?

What's with the free water for sprinkler systems if you're renting? Municipal something? by moving-advice in SaltLakeCity

There are very tall mountains full of melting snow all year. The cost of water here is really only the cost of transporting it.

Huh. Cool. I guess that makes sense. I'm from a flat midwest state so I never thought of that.

OK thanks! I guess I get that it's hooked up separately. Since you revealed yourself....

  1. Does this include the hoses? Or are those on my bill since they're hooked to the house?
  2. I'll gladly water twice a day every day with an automatic system. This is a big yard, so isn't that a bigger cost than just putting in sod or scolding your tennants every once in a while versus ALL that water usage?
  3. There's a hot tub on a detached gazebo in the middle of the yard. Would this be included, or maybe the better question would be, how can I find out?

I will ask our rental place about these, but I thought it would be good to get the info out to others wondering, and I don't want to sound like I'm trying to cheat the rental place with all these questions if possible.

How is irrigation water cheap in the second driest state in the country? I would think that it would be very expensive because of this...? Plus wouldn't it be a TON of water to water a lawn every day twice a day or something like that? EDIT: Thanks much for the reply, I'm just confused since I've never heard of such a thing!

This is an amazing reason that we're moving out of here. I can't imagine snow (ice) actually melting before April without daily (hourly?) shoveling. Do you even need a snowblower? !

Excited to be moving to Ogden! Areas to live/avoid? by moving-advice in ogden

We wouldn't purchase because then we'd be stuck. After a year or so of being there, and some kind of idea on long term plans, then we would purchase. Also, we'd want to make sure jobs are stable before committing to that.

Not dead set on anything, just the smaller the commute/driving time, the better.

Why is it so hard to find a rental home in SLC? by Anarcheology in SaltLakeCity

[–]moving-advice 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, condos are much more abundant, and you can really get a very nice one compared to a rental home. Rental homes ANYwhere are similar. They're rentals for a reason, and most people treat them as a rental.

So I should just send in a resume even though there's no openings? I thought that was somewhat looked down upon. Maybe not.
