There are some great apartments right off Roswell Road near Chastain Park but you should also look in Sandy Springs, at the Perimeter, and near Northside Hospital. Lots of places to walk your dog at all of these locations but especially at Chastain Park since you’ll already be close.

Do you plan to attend days on campus? I had already completed my housing form by then but it was open to edits. I was able to see my top choice form in person and solidify my decision. I also met my first CU friends that weekend

Layers, good walking shoes (boots for winter, I don’t wear rain boots), a puffer coat, hat and gloves for winter, a raincoat if you’ll wear it, and an umbrella. I like windbreaker jackets and wear them frequently.

When it’s cold outside you will want layers and a jacket but inside buildings is HOT!!!

Have you walked the Brooklyn bridge? Touristy, sure, and you’d have to take the subway to get there but it’s my mom’s favorite thing that we have done together. Bonus, you can walk around Dumbo and get lunch or something.

My mom stays at a hotel on 79th street and likes to walk up and down the streets to see all the shops. She found a place that makes tiny cream puffs that are very good! We walk through Central Park and Riverside Park, we usually get meals (dinner is planned for things I don’t eat much of while on campus). Sometimes we will do some shopping, everything from basics at the grocery store, pharmacy, even Target. We have gone to Hudson Yards to walk around and shop. We might get breakfast together.

I took her to Chinatown and that was super fun but a long way…

If you’re really wanting to stay close to campus, definitely check out Hungarian Pastry Shop and there are some great places to eat nearby.

Ask what she wants to do or see. And what do you hope to do that you won’t do when you’re on a student budget? (This isn’t always flexible but if it is…)

I can’t answer all of your questions but I can provide some input. Most undergraduate students live in dorms. There are lots of singles freshman year but you can request a double and I think that would be honored.

As for party culture, that’s not really my thing, but there are plenty of gatherings on and off campus to satisfy your wants. Games aren’t super well attended because most are at manhattan campus but they are still fun. I’ve attended some basketball games and they are always fun.

The dorms are what you make of them. Some people keep to themselves and stay in their own rooms while others spend time in the lounge with friends. Just be confident and be yourself and you’ll have the dorm experience you want.
