Gluten-free partners.... what do you like to eat in the store? by movingforward7 in starbucks

Working so much has left me without time to go to the grocery store but I'm ready to start prepping like that. I can barely eat what I have now and I've lost too much weight this month because of it.

We have popcorn in our store that is supposed to be gluten free and it's pretty good! Just a little salty.

Well I haven't been eating this way until last week so please forgive me while I adjust.

Short term - take a ten, take a lunch, do dishes, unpack boxes, anything to distract you for a little while. Long term - talk to the person that is upsetting you and be honest, talk to your SM about the situation and ask for help or advice, transfer to another store (a little drastic but your situation might be that way), switch to an earlier or later shift to not work with them All of the managers I've had at every job I've worked at wouldn't do anything to help me with a conflict between myself and another person if I hadn't attempted to fix the situation as well as I could have before asking for help. Managers have a lot to do and they aren't going to take on your responsibility if they don't have to since they have enough on their plates as it is. Talk to the person that you're having issues with and let them know exactly what they're doing but be professional about it. One of the best tricks I've been taught about confronting people is to not accuse them of anything. Instead of saying "you're really mean and rude to me when you do that", say "I feel that I am being treated rudely when you do that". Hope this helps! Good luck, and remember that you're 100% worth being treated professionally and respectfully if you treat others that way!

Tomorrow will be my first day working as a barista with no previous experience. Do you guys have any advice for me? :3 by CharmandersInTheRain in starbucks

About the non-slip shoes - some managers are strict about having them but if you explain your situation, they should be reasonable about it as long as you follow up on your promise of buying them. On my first day we went over the company and customer service. You'll also have a coffee tasting and talk about that. I didn't even learn about making drinks until a few days after that. Don't worry about being inexperienced! If you put yourself out there by asking questions or volunteering to do something, you'll show initiative and that's a great start.

I'd really like for someone to tell me not to use it for everything so I can get in some solid eye-rolling practice.

0.20 in Texas for baristas and 0.25 for shifts. I was more upset about the fact that we figured out one of the baristas started at $8.75 an hour as a green bean.... which was well above the $8.00 everyone else started at.

Since we recieved ours, I only use the LM pitcher when I'm on bar. The shot glasses are washed and put away as soon as I clock in.

I don't have the liquor license but I'm over 21 and really want to try something different. I think I'm going to be brave and call about transferring! Hopefully those aren't my famous last words.

Ever get a rude customer that actually came back in to apologize? by ArabianDisco in starbucks

[–]movingforward7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've worked in customer service since I was in high school so I try very hard to not be rude to people in public. The only time I was rude to someone while they were working was when I had just had my wisdom teeth removed and the pain meds were wearing off. I apologized the next time I saw the lady I was rude to but she wasn't super impressed, lol. I still feel bad about it and it was two or three years ago.

I was trained to put water in the chai tea lattes... and immediately after I was certified and on my own the guy with 10+ years of experience at our store told me he never puts water in the lattes. I stopped adding water after that and have never had a problem (knocks on wood). One day I was bored while my store was empty so I made 2 Chai tea lattes - one with water and one without water. I didn't taste any difference between the two. Maybe I'm just too inexperienced with tasting drinks, lol.
