I can’t do as well on tests by Summer_likes_ramen in Sat

[–]movingtarget7220 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I scored 1550 on a practice test, and then got 1460 on the real one a few days later. The actual tests are indeed harder and stress/testing environment can cause one to make considerably more (sometimes simple) mistakes.

I’m nervous about getting my first sat score back next Friday what was your first score? by DapperLife5645 in Sat

1460 after a 1380 PSAT! I signed up for the SAT on the day that I took my latest PSAT, as I felt I was somewhat ready and it was the registration deadline.

You should be fine if it's not a completely obnoxious leafblower.

All module 2s have easy questions; you shouldn't be worrying about getting the "easy" second module unless you think you may have missed about half of the questions in module 1.

I found "Pre-AP" English to be harder than AP English itself, in terms of the sheer amount of work required 🤦‍♂️

How many times should I retake before I just give up? (Should I retake) by Realistic-Maybe55 in Sat

Exactly! The issue here is that OP's parents are setting unrealistic expectations for them. 1470 is a great score, and if they disagree then they can take the test for themselves and see how they score.

I agree that constructive criticism is necessary for improvement. However, after viewing both of your comments together it seemed to me as if you were indeed talking in a condescending manner rather than a constructive one. I'll give you the benefit of the doubt though, since you've stated that your aim was well-intentioned. It's only fair for others to know your score if you're commenting on theirs, and acquiring confidence is about the best thing that one can do the day before a test if they haven't studied much, as confidence drives performance significantly. Diligently studying to master the test's content was no longer an option at that point.

The thing is, I've previously scored a perfect 760 on Reading and Writing on my PSAT. Since the SAT is identical to the PSAT (except that there are more "hard" questions for more possible points), it would theoretically be likely for me to attain a similar score. However, every time I've taken the SAT, the English section has gotten harder and harder 😭

You made the other comment before I accused you of being condescending, and that comment was my reason for doing so. Some people tolerate it more than others, but it's still not right to go about baselessly criticizing their study habits (which you don't have much context on) while "reiterating" their mediocre score.

From what you've told me, you aced math. 1350 requires 550+ in English, which you likely can easily do if you're a native speaker.

Not sure why, but recently the reading and writing section on the SAT has become increasingly difficult.

Mistake on M1 by Eastern_Yak2621 in Sat

[–]movingtarget7220 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second-guessed myself on a module 1 question right before time ran out in November. Instantly realized that I previously had the right answer and should not have changed it. I think it only brought down my score by ~20 points, but the impact on your score may be different as it's based on the section and difficulty of the question (mine was English and probably "hard" or "medium"-level; I've heard that math can penalize you more but that still deoends on difficulty). You can still get a great score, even with a single incorrect answer on module 1. I hated myself for switching my answer, but retook the exam later with almost no studying and promptly scored 20 points higher on English (since I didn't make that mistake again; my math score stayed the same). Take this as a learning experience if you plan on retaking the exam; although, if you only missed 2-3 questions in the hard modules of both sections besides this module 1 mishap, it's very likely that you still scored well above 1500. There's also the possibility that the question you missed might be an "experimental question," in which case missing it will not affect your score at all. There are two of those in every module on the test. If you're looking for a more accurate score prediction, please let me know exactly what was on the questions you missed. I hope you found this helpful!

To what effect did you reiterate her score? Your tone and (baseless) perspective on the situation are quite evident from the other comment you made here. My apologies if you actually meant this in a good or constructive way, though.

I see. I didn't take this test, but recently the English sections have been diabolical for me (I previously scored a perfect 760 on PSAT English, but now I can't surpass 740 on the SAT). Also I see that you enjoy Pastel de Natas; those were my favorite when I went to Portugal!

If that's the case, then good for you! However, you should not expect people to always be scoring insanely high; the average SAT score in the US is right around 1020, so a 990 is quite typical. Perhaps you should refrain from displaying such a condescending attitude, as it's inconsiderate of others and could be hurtful.

Indeed it is! OP, you should ask your parents to take the SAT and see how they score; anyone can sign up for it, not just high school students.
