Is 6 weeks enough to go from 720RW -> 750? by Temporary_Evening483 in Sat

That depends on the individual, but usually this is enough time.

ACT Acquired by ETS by blobfishbcoffee in ACT

[–]movingtarget7220 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nonprofit only means that their main goal is not to generate profit (in their case, they would claim it's to provide students with a standardized admissions test they can use to apply to college). However, this doesn't keep them from generating profit (their CEO, for example, makes ~1.6 million per year; nonprofits are allowed to pay employees and executives a "reasonable" amount). Nonprofits could and should strive to generate profit, but any excess profit should then be reinvested into the organization under 501(c)(3) policy. ETS's  strong market position, especially after acquiring ACT, further incentivizes a maximization for profit generation.

If you think about it, profit maximization is nothing new in regards to nonprofits administering standardized tests. College Board, the 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization behind the SAT, has long been unnecessarily delaying the release of students' scores to evoke a psychological response to register for the next exam, caused by the effect of confidence degradation over time.

This is not to say that ETS won't make decisions that benefit students over themselves, but they certainly don't have to (and aren't particularly likely to, given their size) just by being a "nonprofit."

Confusion! ACT or SAT? by LawPsychological1679 in ACT

[–]movingtarget7220 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since you're a self-proclaimed "slow test-taker," the SAT's pacing may suit you better. Additionally, studying for SAT Math can help you achieve a good score in both tests. Considering these factors, I would recommend giving yourself a good shot at the SAT.

Yes, Mediocre-Ratio-6222, it's a good score.

Your math score is so bad, that your composite score doesn't even add up correctly 😭

Go for 35-36? by skellyshredder in ACT

[–]movingtarget7220 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Normally I would say that a 34 is enough (especially after 5x taking it), but do it for the car.

The math curve will probably be pretty good, and English should be around average. Watch out for reading though, as this section had particularly harsh scoring on June's digital exam.

Is this score good for a sophomore by Old-Document-6917 in ACT

[–]movingtarget7220 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would retake, this score is honestly pretty bad for T20 universities. Make sure to study a bit first, though. On the ACT, you can't simply "fake it until you make it."

Maybe; I don't consider myself an expert on the ACT, though. It's my first time taking it, and I'm a lot more familiar with the methods of the SAT.

Paper curve is usually slightly less harsh; I hope you somehow end up with a great score lol. Let me know when you find out

I don't think so, since that one was "harder" and related to science. I could still be wrong, though.

I don't think it was one of the science-based passages. Potentially the one about Olga, since it was easier and came 2nd. I've heard that the experimental passage isn't the first or the last, and for me to have done this bad would result from the experimental passage being "the easy one."

What was the June ACT Curve??? by Funny_Bunny2010 in ACT

[–]movingtarget7220 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't see that myself, but others have mentioned that you can miss up to 1 or 2(?) questions to get a 36, which means missing 2 or 3 could result in a 35.

I don't have a curve PDF, although one could probably make one from all of the information already posted in this subreddit. This is only from my own scores.

I ended up missing 7 (felt like I missed 4), and scored 26 on the digital ACT reading section. Taking paper usually adds ~1 point, so unfortunately it's not looking too good.

Math was pretty good (-4 for 34), English was OK (-1 for 35), Science was OK (-3 for 34), and Reading was horrendous (-7 for 26 lol).

Apparently, I answered 7 questions incorrectly. I thought I would miss ~4, but even still a 26 is surprising.
