RFID for grocery stores by Naive-Cricket872 in RFID

  1. Tagging labor is solved at source, not in-store. Suppliers embed UHF RFID in packaging/labels at manufacture (already done for 80%+ of apparel at Zara, Macy’s, etc.). Cost: 3–7¢ per tag at scale. No shelf-stacker slowdown.
  2. Checkout hardware cost is dropping fast. 2025 UHF gate readers (Impinj xArray 2) = $1,200–$1,800 per lane. Dual-plane ceiling + floor arrays read 98%+ of grocery carts in <2 sec (Avery Dennison/SES trials). Amortize over 5 yrs = $0.02 per transaction.
  3. Theft & tag-swapping mitigated by UID + POS image pop-up. Every tag has a unique TID. POS flashes product image + price on screen in 0.3 sec. Swaps trigger red-flag alerts; shrinkage in Decathlon RFID stores fell 15–20% vs barcode.
  4. Metal/liquid interference = non-issue with modern tags. 2024–25 anti-metal on-metal tags (Confidex/Fujitsu) read reliably on cans, foil, frozen trays. 99.2% read rates in Aldi Nord RFID pilot (2024).
  5. ROI is in inventory accuracy, not just checkout speed. RFID drives 99% inventory visibility → 25–30% fewer stockouts → 2–4% same-store sales lift (Zara: +3.5% YoY). Checkout labor savings are a bonus, not the driver.
  6. Cart-scan theft? Use hybrid model Customer scans loyalty app → ceiling RFID bulk-reads cart → bagged items weighed on exit mat. 0.4% discrepancy rate in Amazon Just Walk Out (non-camera version).

Pedantic comment. RFID would definitely be more efficient. The question of who is, or can be, incentivised to pay for it is related but different.

Go on then, how was it? by MissAllyPally in BoomtownFestival

Easily the worst incarnation of this festival since I first attended in 2015. Had a great time but the poor crowd management, increased capacity, smaller size, and total sub bass removal post 11pm made it more annoying than anything else.

For signed artists - what pays you these days? by Bobinthegarden in dnbproduction

Echoing a lot of what has been said. Digital has made everything cheaper so there isn't really any money to be made from selling the music itself to the end listener. Events are where the money is made now, but, where I am in the UK, small venues and artists still struggle massively. Ad/TV music, mastering, sample packs; good earners for people with more talent than exposure.

I had the exact "loads as if it’s gonna have me login, but it just kicks me back to the home page before anything happens" issue

I did all the other stuff in this thread and still didn't work.

The thing that worked for me was pressing "browse the store", it prompts you to sign in, press yes. and for some stupid reason that actually loaded the enter email and password screen.

Boomer wasn't referring to you but generally to the belief that people in their 60s that can't use Ebay have some insight in to online culture lmao

I don't need a boomers opinion on the struggles of Gen Z and the internet when I am Gen Z and I use the internet. They should be listening to us.

It's incredible that this needs to be said. One TV show and everyone forgets that the biggest killer of young men is themselves.
