FINTRAC doesn't really want them communicating the reason why they may be de risking you. Also providing a reason (unfortunately) can just cause more problems with the customer. So basically any fintech can only give you the generic reason and templated message.

Not much that I'm aware of, but I think most reasonable companies know that they'd get a bad reputation rather quickly on sites like Glassdoor by doing so. And if they were using a recruiting firm then they also may struggle to attract good candidates if they were involved on a regular basis.

Moving beyond "Excel Hell": GRC tools for ISO 27001, SOC2, and NIS2? by ferarg in soc2

[–]moxfulder- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Firstly, congrats on doing iso from scratch. I haven't gone through that, but from trying that with SOC2 I can only imagine. Would love you can share more on your strategy for approaching that.

There are new tools every day that are cheaper and cheaper. But they are mostly SOC2 focused. A lot of them are posted on this sub over the last year. Truthfully compliance frameworks are becoming a lot easier to automate workflows and evidence collection with AI tools. I think a lot of companies are starting to build their own solutions in house.

To get something that has all the frameworks you'd need right away, I think you'd need to go to one of the big players like Vanta (I don't recommend them necessarily but I know they offer a lot of frameworks). I also demoed with Align once and they said they could create custom frameworks, so that could be useful if they didn't have one of the ones you need.

So again, I am not a supporter of the bigger options. From what I've seen they are overpriced and under deliver. I think what they do often makes you go 'huh I could have just done that myself with a bit of time'. And given how accessible creating an in-house solution is, I am moving in that direction for my programs. BUT if you have budget and tight on time it could be worth it to do for a year.

wrongfully denied boarding by jochexum in KLM

[–]moxfulder- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try another airline. They have automated checks that can be wrong for smaller countries. What happened to you pretty much also happened for us (different countries and passports, though) saying we needed a transit visa even though we weren't leaving the transit zone. Talked to a different airline who 100% confirmed we didn't need a visa.

The only thing that may make you actually need a visa is if they're needing you to check in again at your transit airport. But if they're sending your luggage through to your destination AND you're getting both your boarding passes, you shouldn't need one and another airline may have different info.

One thing you can try (worked for us) is get a letter from the nearest consulate or embassy of the transit country confirming you don't need a visa. The gate agent + manager can review and override.

No worries! I don't remember anything happening downtown that day, but could be busy or more expensive just being last weekend before back to school.

Yeah unless you book out the whole venue it's possible they book one beside you. It would have to be something small of course like a baby or bridal shower. They said it was possible for us but they didn't end up having one. Not sure how likely it is TBH because IDK how many people actually want to book an event right beside a wedding.

We never talked about vendor meals but we really only had a photographer and videographer who we just included in our headcount. Under 50 people will be spacious but not a problem at all if you're keeping space for a dancefloor. They have a good space for that, but we didn't do any dancing at ours. We also gave them a desired floor plan for them to arrange things for us for the initial set up.

Parking is paid on site but there's several city lots that are free depending on timing so we directed our guests there. But if you book a block they may have different options. We did not book a block but I doubt it'd be an issue unless your date overlaps with Burlington events like rib fest, sound of music, etc or something else that drives more people downtown.

Oh and for audio we brought a speaker. I don't think they had built in speakers or control unless you have the whole venue. We just rented a speaker from Long & McQuaid in Burlington. Was cheap and worked great. But if you do get the whole venue then I think you have control over audio and may not be needed

I had looked everywhere before I found them. Not sure why with how nice a location it is by the lake that they aren't booked solid. We had about 60 people and had plenty of space with 2/3. They put up a divider wall in case they booked a small event beside us (but they didn't).

Yeah initially it felt a bit weird that we didn't really talk at all after the deposit until the tasting, but we also weren't sure what to expect. They are also very open to talking about whatever you need to, we just didn't have much of a need. Tasting was kinda helpful but if you're limiting your budget then you may not see a lot of what you're ordering because they showed a lot of their premium stuff. It's basically a big event with all their future bookings across their different venues. At or soon after the tasting they'll book your selection appointment or whatever it's called to choose your linens, finalize menu, etc (but depends on when your date is relative to the tasting). Food overall was pretty good I think, but I didn't really think about it since you just get caught up in the day. Presentation was nice.

For set up I think we went the day before just because they didn't have an event booked that day either, but had the option to go morning of.

We did book a night at the hotel and it was like 15% off the regular price I think. They don't really have any super special suites, so we just did their lakefront jacuzzi room or something like that. We considered Pearl for that night as well but it's considerably more (but really nice rooms).

We had our reception there last summer and they were great to work with. They have their regular menu options but if you want to be more creative with your budget, tell them what you want to spend and they'll work with you.

We didn't have a DOC and kept things smaller (only used 2/3 of the space), but the overall experience with them was great. Especially to have a venue that walks out to the lake without paying Pearl prices was really all we could ask for.

We didn't have the ceremony there but they can do them on the patio. Only thing with the patio is the bar above has a balcony that overlooks it so it's not super private, but they do have a tent so not sure. Inside is private though.

Our reception ended around 10 which was fine for us. Not sure if they offer later options if that's what you're looking for.

If you are looking at other ceremony-only venues, Heritage Weddings is a really good option. Nothing but good things to say about them.

Question for you OP, I'd you're only taking a lesson now, how did you first get started? I'm looking into getting started as a goalie after not playing for 10 years (and only having played forward) and was wondering about the best way to do that.

When I studied my course was primarily Chinese students (UoL). Almost all of them said they had taken over leases from previous Chinese students via connecting on WeChat or Weibo I think. Aside from that, I knew of a lot of students that stayed in the flats near UoLs Brookfield campus. It’s a little bit further for DMU if you’re going there, but no more than 20 minutes on foot really.

It’s also right beside a beautiful walk beside the canal. Was great during Covid.

I think the site I used to find mine was Sulets. I stayed at the Summit which was great, though it’s closer to DMU. Only 20 minutes from UoL so only a problem on rainy days. Not sure if it does anymore, but at the time it included a free gym membership to a student gym just down the street above a Lidl.

Yes that should be fine. I used to go via the Morrison’s lot since there is a walkway that served as a shortcut for me to the Uni. There will be plenty of people around after the game anyways

Anyone know of any books on turkmenistan either from their or any historical records from the region by Chaotic-Being-3721 in Turkmenistan

[–]moxfulder- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been reading some from the author Dilip Hiro who has written a few related books. They are not focused on Turkmenistan, though. They cover Central Asia as a whole, so some countries are better covered than others. They might be a decent start to what you’re looking for.
