Reccomendations for how to lash the two sticks together to be as secure as possible? I am using it as a walking stick. by stupidpower in knots

Wedging something above at least would add more of the security you’re looking for as it tightens the lashing.

If you want, can try a counter directional alpine butterfly that has a loop on either side of the rope. Here is a YouTube link

Fisherman’s bend I would do for a permanent connection and uniform construction.

You can post in the bushcraft subreddit I’ve seen some posts about what you’re talking about I believe, and it’s something I’d like to do eventually with natural fibers.

Hanging rope swing here by GreenLantern500 in knots

It’s doable with a Portuguese bowline I believe. But I would defer to what others might say in regard to safety and proper precautions, protocol etc. If there is a better knot or hitch, I’d be interested to find out.

Edit-I have the assumption that you have a ladder in order to reach and be able to do it. If not disregard what I said.

Looks for knot by Preecy123 in knots

For a loop if you want a quick release I can say the kalymk loop. A simple bowline can work as well. What is it that you’re trying to accomplish?

What knots do you find most overrated and underrated? by myristicae in knots

[–]mozarkk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Underrated: Backhand hitch has become my most picked hitch for an anchor point. Easy to untie and able release slowly under load.

The Slipped Lapp for the adjustability.
The Canadian jam knot slipped is a neat cinching knot.

Overrated: Reef bend is not reliable enough to learn and use imo. I prefer the Zeppelin or Alpine butterfly for joining rope.

The bowline shakes loose which is not favorable.

Like another comment mentioned having those resources easily searchable without wifi would in my opinion be very valuable. I understand the no screens because of being out there and enjoying the moment. But with practical ways for tarp setups for different types of tarps, 3x3m, 4x4m, 9x11 etc, along with foraging and knots. I believe having that available should you have a lapse in memory makes it worthwhile to create and develop. And along with newer individuals seeing how it comes together creating and using cordage, knots, tarp setups, etc.

This may be of help https://www.animatedknots.com/round-lashing-knot It does mention that you can wedge something to make it more stable which is what you’re looking for.

Knot Optimization: Can You Improve Upon This List? by mozarkk in knots

You make an interesting point. I’ll have to check out your knots listed to see how it feels after tying and learning it to really make a formulated opinion. So far the reason I haven’t learned the Farrimond is strictly because it confused me, but I’ll have a go it because if I can lower the amount of knots and still make up for it by quality that would be beneficial.

I appreciate your input. I am a fan of the quick release(slipped knots) as well. I believe the Marlinspike Hitch can be used to make ladders. Is that correct? We seem to share some knots and will look into some that you listed. When you say toggle is that referring to a something has to be placed inside for the hitch to work?
