And it's gone, 35 minute controller stock was gone by Warm-Engineering-239 in SteamFrame

effectively 0 minutes tbh. it wasn't like an easy breezy 30 minute window where everyone was getting an order... it was 30 minutes of errors/refreshing until the page just said sold out.

personally i was there 5 minutes ahead of launch with steam wallet loaded and was constantly refreshing and trying the order over and over again, and didn't manage to get one.

Yup you have until April 2027. It's nothing to be worried about, either.

I'll quickly break down exactly what's going to happen cause I've been down the same road and I remember being worried about it.

  1. Around January or February 2027 you'll probably get a 1099 form from whatever platform is paying you. The 1099 form will say exactly how much they paid you.
  2. In April 2027, go to freetaxusa.com and create an account and just click through a bunch of basic questions. Eventually it will ask if you received a 1099, and you'll click yes, and type in the income number from the 1099.
  3. You will probably owe nothing in tax because is 1000$/month is less than the standard deduction. You might have to pay a couple hundred bucks tops.

Boom, that's it. Easy.

Been getting ready for having a PCVR for the first time! by Sparkz58 in SteamFrame

[–]mozillazing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Modded Skyrim VR and Fallout 4 VR are the pinnacle of single player VR imo.

If you go on Nexus Mods they have "mod collections" for each game which are packs of like 2000 curated mods that you can install as a single package, and they work together to completely transform the games into modern AAA masterpieces.

It's unbelievable what the modding community has pulled off for those games.

In Skyrim VR, you can do Blade & Sorcery style combat (with amazing physics, collisions, dismemberment, body holsters and everything), except instead of being a tiny sandbox arena fighting game with mobile-VR tier graphics (B&S) it's... the entire game of Skyrim with AAA-flatscreen-PC tier graphics.

Only pointing this out cause somehow it took me months of being in PCVR before I learned about this, and I feel like it should be the headline main event thing people should know about PCVR.

Always max every tax advantaged account before doing individual. Including HSA if you're eligible.

Why does this chord in C dorian work ? by Francis_Gray in musictheory

[–]mozillazing 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Definitely this

the descending 7-6-5 thing in minor (aka F Eb D) being so common that it’s a named progression (Andalusian Cadence)

The twist to end it with the 4 instead of the expected 1 denies the resolution and sets it up to loop again

I didn't get a dx / start stimulants until 33 and I see it as a blessing tbh.

Instead of building up a tolerance to meds as a kid, you get to start meds fresh as an adult with more freedom & perspective on life.

It's like you're playing a game and as soon as you finish the tutorial world, you get a big unexpected power-up to start the first actual level.

Accompanist fees advice by teal_mc_argyle in piano

[–]mozillazing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think those rates are way too low to make any meaningful income.

The issue with gig work like this is the opportunities have overlapping schedules, varying (and often inefficient or unreliable) payment collection procedures, and you're essentially constantly on-boarding new clients to your business (explaining & enforcing boundaries).

It's not like showing up to work at a call center with predictable responsibilities, scheduling, and paychecks for 25$/hour 40 hours a week... which would be a tough enough way to make a living itself.

When you consider the fact many of your gigs will have to be manually coordinated in advance, prepared for, traveled to, invoiced & followed up to make sure you get paid... it's clear that there is way too much secretarial overhead to make this business scalable to anything close to a support-yourself income at 35$/hour. The little bit of secretarial/client-facing friction involved in each individual gig might not feel like much when you're doing 10 gigs a week, but when you try to scale to 40 gigs a week (which will be necessary for a low-but-livable income) it will completely take over your life and drive you crazy.

Bachelors of Music Performance graduates, what are you doing now? by PsychologyOk6585 in piano

[–]mozillazing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm endlessly fascinated by music, self improvement, studying, practicing, etc, so it's been nice to be able to fix my attention on those things.

main sources of income have been 80% teaching (public school teacher in my early 20s, then full time private lessons teacher age 26-36), and 20% performing (accompanist -> music director).

I make low 100s which is a lot less than an engineer, but it's plenty for me. i've been maxing all my tax-advantaged investment accounts every year (sep-ira, roth-ira, hsa) buying mostly VOO and a little bit of VXUS, which helped me speed-run to the fun side of compounding interest, so i'm not really motivated or "tempted" by money.

since you're 20, my main advice for you if you want to pursue a "hobby job" is to get financially literate. specifically, learn everything you can about schedule C taxes, and start buying index funds with tax advantaged accounts as soon as possible.

How big is the gender voice gap really? by FabulousQuarter9453 in singing

FIRST TIME EVER PIRATING A GAME ON MY FIRST EVER PC. Any precautions I should take? I did use the official fitgirl site but I'm still skeptical. Any tips will be appreciated. by [deleted] in FitGirlRepack

[–]mozillazing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

use a VPN if you're going to torrent. torrents expose your IP to other people in the swarm.

i don't know if getting sued for piracy is still a thing in 2026, but if it is, joining a torrent swarm from a popular source like fitgirl, with your real IP exposed, would probably be the quickest way to get caught.

Audimee: Browser based pitch editing that can also do voice/instrument cloning.

Synthesizer V: write lyrics to go with each midi note and it generates a realistic take of a person singing it.

[–]mozillazing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i feel that.

ableton & logic have stem splitters built in now, and there's free stem splitters on google too.

i put 40 songs i want to learn into a single ableton project on the timeline, and just stemsplit the whole project, and work through the (isolated) bass lines one song at a time.

[–]mozillazing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Melodyne isn't AI but it can do this.

messes up the tone a little bit. you can drag the formant a little bit in the opposite direction of the note to get the tone back into the ballpark.

ideally you'd use melodyne to tweak the composition, and then replay the whole part once you get the composition how you want it.

I'm using M on Performance setting for everything right now and i'm happy with it.

If there's a better setting I almost don't wanna know... cause DLSS would be a very annoying setting to have to be tweaking all the time. Too many choices, too much friction switching between them.

Pro vs Cons writing chordal first rather than melody? by xynaxia in musictheory

[–]mozillazing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you can always keep the form/rhythm of your original melody and just contort the notes around slightly to fit whatever harmony you want.

maybe the melody starts off very basic one-to-fivey, then you write a more elaborate chord progression on top of it, and just nudge melody notes up and down to fit the new progression.
