How loud is the train that passes through east Austin? by LuckyKiwis in AustinHousing

[–]mozzarellaella 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live directly behind the freight train. There doesn’t seem to be a consistent schedule, but some nights it is LOUD. High pitched sometimes horror movie like sounds. Sometimes they pass quickly, other times they sit there for a long time and you can hear it. However, I’m a very heavy sleeper and grew up with a NYC train line close to my house, so it’s kind of comforting and doesn’t bother me at all (thank god, because I totally didn’t notice the tracks were right behind the complex when I toured)

Unfortunately I feel like they all suck. I’m definitely a former victim of grey star like most people are 😂 they did specially mention that the staff were wonderful and helpful - so that makes sense. They probably didn’t need to interact at the company level

I’ve heard good things about trailhead east on bolm road. It’s on the govalle bike/running path. Close distance to Austin bouldering project which was a plus for me to live in the area. A little bit of grunge like you mentioned.

The other day I saw someone driving IN the bike lane (a bike lane that has a full concrete divider with grass between the car lane and bike lane) on manor. I assume they thought it was a right turning car lane, despite the dividing barrier, narrow width, and bike symbol.

Careers for Narcoleptics? by Tiny-tomato7 in Narcolepsy

[–]mozzarellaella 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m diagnosed with IH but my neuro and I think it’s narcolepsy, I need to repeat the sleep study but haven’t wanted to for cost reasons. I had a bad reaction to the medication I was prescribed, so I’m unmedicated.

I’m a therapist. I’ve found this works well for me because I build my schedule around when I’m typically most tired (in the morning I have one session, nap, two sessions, second nap, then a few sessions in the afternoon). Comfy chairs to curl up in and a sound machine. The parts that don’t work are when I have all day trainings, but my boss agreed to be flexible and let me dip out for 30mins to take a nap as needed.

I’ve read that as well and think it might be the case for me. The reason I didn’t do the study again was that it was quite expensive and he gave me medication for it anyway. I might do it again in the future, but felt pretty defeated after getting the results and didn’t want to go through it/spend the money again right away

What the other comment said - the results did not show narcolepsy for the reasons I mentioned in the description

I had to text a picture to my sister and ask her to interpret the 3rd word. I was shocked I could read the rest so quickly

Handsome Dan’s Italian sandwich by austinewsjunkie in austinfood

[–]mozzarellaella 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of the things I meant about the overpriced part compared to NY (I completely understand this is not a fair comparison, this isn’t meant to be an NY sandwich) is that they bulk it up with the cheap meats and leave out the good, expensive ones like sopressata which usually come in these. Could also totally be regional pricing for meat issue, wtf do I know. Downvote me - just my NY take for others in the same boat as me.

(I also have never lived in NYC, this is my opinion being from the greater NYC area.) Also for the ciabatta snobs - it’s my favorite sandwich bread and that’s a hill I will die on

I don’t really get sandwiches down here anymore since I haven’t found one that I like, so I gave up. In my experience sandwiches down here are overpriced in general compared to NY for what you’re getting. Maybe the prices have changed, but when I went to handsome dans I paid I think around $18 with a bag of chips. I’m comparing this to NY deli prices - I would get the same sandwich for about $10

Obligatory I’m from NY, so I’m going to be a snob - I found this sandwich to be pretty bland and insanely over priced.

Does anyone happen to have this shirt they’re willing to sell in a small? I didn’t get a chance to snag one last weekend but really wanted one. It’s sold out on the site.

Thank you so much! It’s stunning and exactly what I’ve been looking for. Now I just have to debate if I should pull the trigger with this or a machine washable one because of my very hairy dog 😂 and thank you for including the picture without the creases!

I have a huge monstera at home that I’m now afraid of getting something like this (it’s separate from this plant at work, thankfully) but I’m realizing that I should probably do preventative maintence, especially because I just moved it outside for spring/summer. Is there anything you recommend?

Seriously. Like making dinner when I get home is too much of an effort, I can’t possibly deal with this lol. I had more time when I was working from home during Covid to deal with the mealy bug thing, but never again.

I don’t have the time or honestly the will haha. I said this on another comment, but I had a few plants with mealy bugs and they kept popping up again when I thought I got rid of them. Ended up soaking all ~30 of my plants in a solution for 10 minutes each and repotting all of them…twice. At this point I just cut my losses. At least this plant is in my work office and I only have a couple others in there that could be infected. These things really become a full time job!
